Claudius I'll add another criteria, consistency. Jesus had never had it even when fit. He goes through very short bursts of productivity and then he'll settle into long barren spells. That was his way at City and he's been the same for us. Arteta can fantasise about Jesus making the difference here but he played in both games vs Munich last year and did fuck all, why would this be any different? Ditto Havertz who people were talking about as not being at this level after the Munich match. We all agreed we needed a striker this time last year and nothing has changed on that front.

from the noises coming out of the club, one of jesus or trossard will probably need to go in order to free up places up front for a new ST and LW, both of which are needed in my estimation. there's a case to be made for either to move on

Gazza M if we are keeping one I hope its Trossard. I'd rather cash in but he's still pretty useful if we can't sell him. I wouldn't renew though, just let him run down the deal.

When Sterling goes back we're either short a winger or an AM, depending on which role we want to prioritise Ethan for.

If after all this Jesus is still also being considered part of our 22 unless sold, then we're in for another long summer (and probably season, because I can't see who is going to take him off our hands).

Starters in a big game: Williams, Sesko, Saka
Impact subs/alternative starters: Martinelli, Havertz, Nwaneri

And then we can move on Sterling, Jesus and Trossard. I do think Jesus is hard to move until December, however, due to his injury.

Claudius that goes back to @Pepe LeFrits point that if you have Nwaneri, and I'd add Havertz, as members of the front 3 then you need another attacking mid. So really you need what you have above or another ST, winger or AM. TBF that's leaves us with plenty of opportunities in the market.

Part of your argument for retaining Partey was the opportunity cost in replacing a player we didn't need to. Apply that here. If there is limited scope for transfer wheelings and dealings then I'd rather focus it on Partey's replacement than Trossard's.

Trossard might not now be the standard we aspire to, but what he lacks in goals and assists he makes up for in his ability to have his name said and in not making newspaper headlines every six months.

lorddulaarsenal I see no benefit to even considering Jesus when discussing what the squad looks like. His wages are a sunk cost at this point. Better to just mentally write them off and give every a few extra grand a week when his contract finally expires.

Here's what I do if this were an FM save.

Midfielders:

6s:

Zubimendi;
Young prospect (could this be Myles?)

8s:

Top quality starting left 8 (box to box and physical but highly technical);
Rice as rotation

Top quality right 8 (think PSG-style mids);
Odegaard as rotation, or sold and develop Nwaneri there

Forwards:

LWF:

Top quality starter (tall, explosive, excellent one v one dribbler, goal threat);
Martinelli as backup/rotation

RWF:

Saka;
Top quality alternative but faster/more explosive than Bukayo. Similar or better G/A output essential

CF:

Fuck knows who, but basically Isak without injuries;
Havertz as backup/rotation;
Young prospect with elite potential to take over from Havertz and eventually compete with main main

All those not mentioned would be sold.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert Wait so you would relegate Rice to a rotation role? He's been our best player and a top 3-5 midfielder in the world.

After the last few months, I really feel like we need to entertain replacing Odegaard or at least introducing competition for his spot. He was dire over the last two legs IMO. I'm tired of him doing his left footed circles around the pitch since he doesn't trust his right foot and then turning down open shooting chances. I don't think its realistic to mention names like Wirtz and Musiala but someone like Cherki (I know he has some baggage when it comes to personality and handlers), Gibbs-White, Damsgaard, Baena or Sancet would be a nice addition and help our playmaking/goals from the midfield immensely.

Tam Btw, I thought Trossard was great yesterday, and our most enterprising forward. So I like the guy a lot. Where he is different from Partey is we still have a contract and can extract some money. And he mainly plays at left wing or striker - and I think we can aim to target two top top tier players in those roles, better than Trossard. Right wing is set with Saka and Nwaneri.

I doubt there's much chance of the club replacing Trossard this summer. They need to:

Replace Neto (unless Setford is set for promotion to number 2)
Replace Sterling (either by signing an AM and making Ethan Saka's backup, or by signing a winger and making Ethan our AM. I think the evidence suggests that Arteta doesn't really trust Ethan at 10, so we probably need another AM)
Replace Tomiyasu (either make White Saliba's cover and sign another RB, or sign a right sided CB)
Replace Jesus with a new CF and sell Jesus if possible
Replace Jorginho
Probably replace Partey (either sign another DM, or put MLS in the DM rotation and either sign a new LB, or keep Zinchenko)
Depending on the above, sell Zinchenko
Sell Nelson, Vieira, Lokonga and probably a few other loanees I've forgotten about
Tie down Saliba and other 2 year contracters, or sell and replace

... then we have Trossard. Selling him and signing a replacement wouldn't be top of my to do list

Totally agree there. He gave us a good injection of determination and life into the game towards the end when things were flagging a bit.

To compete in the CL and EPL for the long run, we need rotation. I want 2 good players for each position. We need CB, CM, LW/RW and CF all covered and GK.

At least two of those should be elite level talent. CM, winger and CF for me. If Arteta brings those in and we can't win anything or be fails to rotate, it's time for change.

Rice is fine. He's not our best player, certainly not if we are talking about the whole season. Probably correct if we are talking about April. He's not an issue individually though. Its the midfield balance that's off. Another good reason to change things at 6 because its a lot less likely we are going to move on Rice or Odergaard.
