I reckon if we signed Gyokeres June 1st he will be viewed a bit differently. Because he’s been dragged out it has increased ‘buyers remorse’ especially as the shine has gone off a bit.

Qwiss Selling a 25 year old is easier than a 31 year old, I'm just talking about potential downside if things go wrong. If a big money transfer goes wrong it is a huge financial drag on the club. My main point is with Sesko there is risk but I see much bigger upside. Gyokeres HAS to hit the ground running, he isn't going to significantly improve at 27.

Klaus 19 goals and 15 assists in 23/24 and 16 goals and 8 assists last season, 6 G/A in his last 10 games against us, 8 G/A in last 10 against Liverpool that doesn't sound like someone who is PL disproven to me.

Big Willie He is a dangerous player for teams who play on the counter. How many times do we play on the counter? I think if someone like him went to Italy he would tear shit up but I have serious doubt about him playing for a top side here. I don't think he is some complete bum btw, he is a good player but not the right player for us.

Giroud and Lacazette never scored more than 16 league goals for us.

Presumably if Gyokeres scores over 20 in the league, it’ll be money well spent then.

A goal is a goal is a goal. I don't care how he scores them, as long as he scores them. Same goes for anyone else in the squad. As long as the ball goes into the net, thats what we care about.

samthegooner good post but I noticed one thing, you have Rodrygo on 9 and Martinelli on 7 here. Last season Martinelli and Trossard got 8 each. This is one of the reasons I'm wary about the idea that we can upgrade easily on the left hand side. With that said I do believe having a real striker will make a difference to the wingers in terms of output. If Gyokeres comes in and performs as we hope then it will pull defenders away from the wingers. I think Rice will find some joy from this too. We've been too easy to keep quiet in the central areas the last few seasons.

No one in the PL last season scored more than 20 non-penalty goals. Think you are raising expectations too high here. I seriously doubt Sesko is ever scoring 20 NPGs in the Premier League either no matter how many development years you gave him.

This. People are really not being consistent, here. They would be happy to watch Sesko fail to score goals because of some supposed upside (aren't goals the upside of a striker?) while they already have the knives out for Gyokeres and making up weird caveats like non-penalty goals, as if that matters when it comes to winning the league.

Goals for goals sake aren't even the point, here. Every time he breaks the deadlock, gets the second goal, or scores a winner, we're more likely to be 3 points closer to the title. This is all that matters. Everything else is bunk.

The age argument is even more ridiculous. He's not old, and this isn't a sunk cost. Get a grip, people.

Qwiss Good call-out. I'm hesitant to commit to double figure goals for Rodrygo without seeing how he can handle the EPL. I'll admit that while I love watching him play from an aesthetic perspective for Madrid, the matches against them in the Quarterfinals really gave me hesitation on if he would be able to handle the physicality of the EPL. Granted, not a lot of EPL players can handle the physicality of MLS already but he seemed to be completely rattled by it. Personally I think that if we spend big on Rodrygo this summer and he ends up under double digit goals, that's not a great sign but I also like his creativity on the wing. That being said, I really like our chances to score 90+ goals comfortably in the league if we can march out a team that has Saka, Rodrygo, Gyokeres, Havertz, Martinelli, Eze and Odegaard as options in the attack and attacking midfield. That's a lot of quality weapons from both a creative and goal scoring perspective and a big improvement on the stable of players we had for the better part of 24/25. Some of the benches we had to deal with post Havertz injury were absolutely dire so improving on that and having genuine difference makers we can bring in is going to make a difference in converting the amount of draws we had into wins IMO.

Gurgen Penalty goals should get a bit more respect here. It’s not easy to dispatch every pen. If we had someone who could do that, the last three seasons may have looked a bit different. Henry scored all the crucial pens and that was a big asset.

The expectations in this thread seem to be he'll be among the top scorers in the league so he'll need to be at around 30 PL goals for that. We hardly get penalties so will have to be banging in a fair amount in open play! I wasn't being serious btw!

Especially after Havertz's penalty knocked Arsenal out of the cup against United. He'd given up before he even struck the ball. Loser mentality.

If you ever see a real striker take a penalty like that you'd dock them a month of wages.

I'm still reeling at the Madueke talk, but Eze being a genuine target fills me with hope.

We cannot afford another season where Odegaard is essentially a non-factor. If his first 5 games are more of the same, he needs to be dropped and - hopefully - Eze given a run in the team. I can also see Eze being a handy replacement for Rice when the latter needs to be rested.
