He's represents what should be the jewel in the crown. We should be in a position where we can go balls out for the key player we need without it compromising our general approach and turning into Man United.
He might not be elite, but he doesn't necessarily have to be and that shouldn't be justification for not ponying up the money. He just needs to work for us and what we need. I don't think anyone would ever have considered Firmino elite, but he did exactly what Liverpool needed, and by the time you account for inflation in the 10 years since Liverpool signed Firmino, the transfer fees aren't too out of line.
It's a valid point on the remainder left over for other positions. We've got into recent seasons light in numbers in certain areas and it seems like this time around we're compromising one of the most urgent areas to address in order to right that problem though.
