Don Pacifico back in the day when teams played 4-4-2 all the great ones had 4 strikers. Look at us : Henry, Bergkamp, Suker and Kanu. Utd had Yorke, Cole, Sheringham and Ole. Inter had Vieri and Ronaldo in the same starting 11!

Ok football has changed now and often teams play with one up front but we have more games now as well….easily can have 3 top strikers across 60 games imo. Sesko can probably play on the left and Havertz great sub.

Sicario2 I'm not saying we shouldn't have quality back-up. It's about allocation of resources.

We got Suker on a free, as a player 2-3 seasons away from retiring and Kanu also came pretty cheap because Inter didn't want him (actually a theme with the forwards we bought in that era). None of this is comparable to buying the two hottest available CF prospects in the market for big money in the same window.

There is no way that the club doesn't already know who they want of the two. I would like to think that Isak's availability for the right price may actually be a possibility which is why we are keeping both conversations warm and haven't already closed one or the other. Not many clubs competing for them seriously is helping us bide time may be.

Mirth Even for Sweden it’s Isak that gets the freedom to drift wide.

Sweden usually play a 4-2-3-1 variant that looks more like a 4-4-2 or perhaps a 4-2-2-2 on the actual pitch to me, but it's pretty fluid. Both Isak and Gyökeres drift a lot but neither is really a winger.

Gyökeres does work the channels a lot for both Sporting and Sweden though, and due to his two-footedness he works well on either flank. I think he would help the wingers overload the fullback.

You could probably play Sesko and Gyökeres together, but Sesko would most likely drop down in the hole which is how Leipzig has sometimes used him. I don't think it would be bad news for Martinelli but rather Ødegaard if it were to happen. I understand he had a pretty bad season?

Will Jesus even be on the bench most match days though? I imagine as soon as he's fit he'll go on loan somewhere so we can manage his wages a bit while his contract runs out.

Mirth I don't think Gyökeres is the player most seem to think he is. I don't think he'd ever be likely to start wide, but that's where he cut his teeth as a player and he's perfectly capable of going out there to finish games. He's a strong runner and a ball carrier who plays off the shoulder, not a static target man.

I'd wager he'd be better than Trossard if asked to do a job at left wing, but it looks like we might be keeping the emo little Belgian, anyway.

Coombs Gyokeres would be better than Trossard on the wings. No debate.

But why even have that debate? Just put Gyokeres up front all season, rotate with Havertz in the league cup (who is still a 15 goal a season striker) and get top quality wide player. If there's still a chunk of change left (and time) we can go in for Sesko and start stock piling talent.

I don’t think Gyokeres would be good on the wing. Doesn’t seem to have boundless energy required nor the nimbleness.

His physical traits are far more suited to playing centrally
