Most of the goals since the Q-F have been goal of the tournament contenders - which tells you just how crucial the x-factor is at this level. We've built such a strong foundation which if supplemented with the right x-factor upfront would deliver all of the best prizes in the game. The problem is that by the time (if we do) we end up attaining the offensive quality, we may end up losing some of our defensive talent. We've never had the capacity, budget or appetite to build a complete team and that's been an ongoing trend in the Emirates era. Every time we get close, there are glaring holes which just aren't addressed.
There really is only a handful of talent in the world who could light up a CL semi-final and most of them already play at bigger clubs. We need to take risks in hoping we land the next big talents but the odds are against us. For every Salah, there are countless players who don't deliver those heights. Our best attackers have also traditionally been hand me downs.
