Claudius Tbf, you can say we lost the tactical battle to Villa at our place last season because we lost the game, but we lost the game because Trossard somehow hit Martinez when he had an open goal to score in and Havertz blew two incredibly presentable one on ones. It's not like Emery outsmarted Arteta - he said as much after the game.

Our first half performance was pretty good. We just collapsed mentally and physically in the second half.

Claudius Jesus started both games against Villa last season. Havertz played in midfield.

If we just play Havertz up front, it'll be a net improvement.

We struggle with those opportunities in general. We’re not great at launching counter attacks from deep.

I would like to see Timber or Calafiori at left back but other than that, I'd be okay if we put out the same lineup we had against them in the second match. Like @RocktheCasbah said, we outplayed them for the majority of the second match but just couldn't put away chances. I would also contend that Saka was very dinged up for that match and definitely diminished so having him at closer to full strength would be a great improvement.

I'd just go for last weeks team and swap out Zinny for Timber/Calafiori. I think that'd be our best XI at the moment. I reckon Martinelli can get some joy out of Matty Cash too, so keep him there. Midfield picks itself more or less until we get Merino in. Saka, Havertz, White, Saliba, Gabriel are all nailed on and have to be starting these big games.

I don't think there's any chance of Arteta throwing Calafiori in straight away. Especially in a position he demands so much of.

I think purely based on fitness/readiness concerns, Zinchenko would start with Timber or Calafiori subbing on later in the game.
