He’s good but in a purple patch (last year in his contract no surprise) and half his goals are penalties.

He is world class but not the best player in the world imo.

lol. I watch most Madrid games. Mbappe has had an opening season a bit like Havertz. Slow, frustrating ramp up in the fall as they tried to work out his exact role. But now he’s on fire. He might be a better player than Salah, but he hasn’t had the better season.

Absolutely agree that Salah is best this season but ballon d'or is weird because a) calendar year b) over-rating of national team success in summer tournaments c) Spain/Madrid bias.

Ballon d'Or hasn't been for the calendar year since 2021 it's been awarded on a season basis since then.

The Ballon D'or has always had a heavy weighting towards International and Continental Cup competition. Henry was beaten to it by players who won the CL. Owen and C.Ronaldo won it after winning the Uefa Cup and CL.

I suspect the reason why it has has such a heavy weighting, aside from them being more coveted than domestic titles, is because voters don't actually watch and follow all of the best players across Europe. While, everyone is always tuned in to major CL and International games.

I'm not a Liverpool fan, but I've watched them against Leverkusen, Milan, PSG, City and Madrid outside of facing us. I sure as hell wasn't watching when they played the other 17 PL teams, so I think domestic form just doesn't carry as much weighting when deciding who deserves it.

tazmania without Trent I think they'll drop a bit. Without Salah they won't challenge at all. If even VvD goes they'll struggle for a CL place.
