RocktheCasbah I'm pretty sure that Smith Rowe finished the 2021-22 season in double figures as one of our top scorers
Yes. He hit a big finishing heater. I don't deny that.
He was, but as the first guy off the bench. From the Southampton game forward, he started 8 of 23 PL games.
RocktheCasbah And I think there's a world of difference between "mediocre" and not quite being good enough to get a chance to play in a 90 point Premier League team.
I agree but I don't say mediocre lightly.
I think this could be very accurately condensed down to "mediocre".
RocktheCasbah Smith Rowe coming into the team that actually got us playing football again.
He did not get us playing football again. That 20-21 team still sucked. We experienced a dead cat bounce in the second half of the season, but I didn't think anything of it whatsoever in the moment. The team still wasn't worth a shit at all.
I think people generally wanted it to be the case that Arteta's job was in trouble due to how bad we were sucking. All of the reporting at the time, though, was that the Kroenke's were in love with Arteta and his job wasn't in any danger at all.
