Anyway, Arteta used Martinelli on the right against Everton at the end of last season and then again for the last 10 minutes against Wolves. I wonder if he is considering moving him to back up Saka and open up a spot at LW for a bona fide game changer? I also actually prefer Martinelli on the right (based on his performance against Everton), he looked more controlled and confident running with the ball and putting crosses in.

If we sell Nketiah and get either Ramsdale or Nelson out the door I suspect we'll do more business than just Merino (real business, not a 2nd choice GK). Going to be an interesting last ten days.

Rumours that Sociedad have rejected our latest offer and want £40m. Again seems like its probably bullshit. I get the feeling with this transfer that its like Calafiori and loads of nonsense rumours pop up when its already as good as done. However if there is truth in it we should walk away.

I don't think we've done enough to tilt the odds in our favour. They've finally replaced Mahrez with Savinho, and Gundogan returning shifts the odds in their favour again. The only gap I see is if Haaland gets injured as they're light up top following Alvarez's departure, but Guardiola will just play a false nine and it will all be good.

Our best hope is that the defence we had in the second half of last season is here all season long and we somehow manage to concede less than 25 goals.

Is Gundogan definitely returning to City? Seems like it is one option on the table.

Also, not convinced that makes all that much difference given how we've evolved since he moved to Barca.

I honestly don't understand the negativity on this thread. The team that went 16-1-1 in the run-in with a much younger squad than the title winners isn't losing anyone of note and adding two great-to-world class players in Calafiori and (most likely) Merino. In an ideal world we could add a dynamite attacking option like Nico Williams but settling for the Gimenez's and Toney's of the world is not the answer and would set our project back. We should not just be signing for the sake of adding bodies. We need elite players that fit Arteta's mold and if we can't get them in this window, then we should just keep the powder dry. Players that would have improved us a year or two ago are simply not the answer anymore.

my frustration is that we have a clear weakness in attack, and we've spent most of the window signing another defender, fawning over a defensive midfielder, and now looking to spend more resources on another goalkeeper. its like the flashing red warning light about the attack keeps getting brighter, and we keep looking for any solution that isnt another attacker

mdgoonah41 Who would you want to bring in that is realistic? We tried very hard for Sesko, Isak and Nico Williams - all players who could come in and either improve us immediately and/or be potentially world-class in a season or two. We avoided going after players like Neto (injury risk) and Zirkzee (too similar to Havertz). Like it or not, there are not a ton of players in the class of the trio above and even fewer that are actually available on the market. IMO we very much want an attacker but we are not going to settle for a signing that may provide additional depth this year but will be someone we need to shift in a year or two. We already have Trossard who can be an impact sub across the frontline while not being in that world-class category. Any other signing like him has the potential to handcuff us from going big next summer for a game changer in attack. Not criticizing you but if you're going to come out and say we haven't looked to address the attack, you've got to be able to provide some options we should be going for IMO.

mdgoonah41 I feel like we have two potential 20 goal scorers on the team. We need to unlock them. Saka and Havertz.

samthegooner id have taken the money we spent on californication, the money we should get for ramsdale and eddie, and use that to bring in nico williams. yes hes going to be expensive and we'd have to pay over the odds to get him, but i agree, that is the bracket we should be targeting. im not advocating signing the likes of toney or neto. i just question the approach of spending big at left back when we signed timber last season. now where does he play? midfield? our defense was a big strength last season, so we took something that was 99th percentile and tried to improve it to the 100th percentile, while i feel our attack is like an 80th percentile unit and could have been improved with a major splash.

Clrnc yeah, I've seen this but Romano also says that other clubs have expressed interest in him so could be that he chooses to go somewhere else.
