This was telling from Moyes. Basically that Declan was holding his team together. The way Declan is sprinting at 90 minutes in multiple games at the end of the season. He’s superhuman. Still can’t believe the 17 year gap between Vieira/Gilberto and a player like this.

daredevil I said this elsewhere, but when I mean he's not the best as an 8, I'm thinking of how he compares to a Silva, Ode or De Bruyne.

Ok I understsnd that, but we have our own De Bruyne/Sliva in Ode. We need another type of player in there. A facilitator of sorts who has the ability to score and assist but also the speed and strength to both press high and recover when we turn possession over.

I don't know nearly enough about Gubbs White to day he's that, but one of the reasons I'm leaning towards Rice in there at 8 is because I really want someone as comfortable on the ball, in tight spaces and in finding the right passes quickly and vertically to play as our 6, as Partey is at his peak.

I'm with you @Big Willie - I want Rice to specialize moving forward as the best 6 in the world. I don't mind what he provides as an all energy 8 but he has the potential to be the best 6 and we should be building the squad in that model. I want someone more attack oriented as an 8 with a robustness to also contribute defensively. Guimaraes is too technically limited for me to fill that role. Gibbs-White would be perfect and I think he's also underrated being at Forest, where he is the hub for everything they do. He really caught my eye at the U23 Euros last year as I felt he was the best on that England team by a large margin, even over Gordon, Colwill, Jones, ESR, etc.

samthegooner Do we risk having a squad with too many dribblers in MF and not enough penetrating passers from deep to spring a quick counter? Rice can't do that and neither can, from whatever little I have seen, Gibbs-White. Especially in European games, we have seen the benefits of someone like Jorge, so I would have thought a more mobile version of him is perhaps the complementary piece we need? Not sure if that profile fits better at #6 (a la Rodri) or #8 or the inverting full-back. The Zinchenko inversion solved that problem for a bit, but obviously creates a lot more holes and Timber is also more inclined to try and break through teams by dribbling rather than the line-breaking pass.

I want a clutch of midfielders with complementary attributes that can do what is required on and off the ball.

Bernard Woolley It's a good point. I haven't really taken into account what Timber could bring to the team next year and his driving runs might overlap too much with what Gibbs-White likes to do. Ideally, we can bring in two midfielder profiles - one more of a Jorginho replacement like Zubimendi and then a more dynamic midfield profile like Gibbs-White or Eze. I won't be disappointed if we went more of the Zubimendi route but I also feel like MGW is going to really be great in a good side and want to see that for us.

Coombs it's also just not true. All the fan 'protests' accomplished nothing. The Kroenkes do what they do irrespective of us fans.
