Claudius Sure it was a penalty, but if you alter a straightforward situation by hanging your leg out like that, you're less likely to get the call. It's not good versus evil. It's how it is versus how we'd like it to be.

And on the last kick of the first leg of an ultra high profile tie worth £20m+ in winnings either way. So the match referee chokes because he's got the VAR for backup, and the VAR chokes because he doesn't want to own un-choking the match referee. These officials are just as brittle psychologically as half our XI were today.

Anyway too many poor performances for us tonight. Kiwior, Saliba, Rice, Havertz, Raya all under par to various levels. Saka and Ode were the only really good performers. Jesus and Trossard did ok too.

We badly need Tomi fit for the next leg because Kiwior was awful and Zinny was only slightly better.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert

Partey and Zinchenko should be binned in the summer.

Totally agree with all of this.

Thought we did really well to get ourselves back in the game.. Full disclosure: didn't love the subs initially, Zinny continues to antagonise and I thought Jesus AND Trossard was a bit too much given there's still 90 minutes to play in a Munich, but fair play to Arteta and the two subs cos that was a brilliant goal created by Jesus and finished by Trossard.

Hopefully we can sit in and defend as well as Munich did tonight, because we have the players to kill them on transitions too.

Anyways, looking forward to having to try and forget the second leg is happening whilst celebrating the missus big birthday which contains a zero next Wednesday.

Meatwad mentioned the players focusing on the badge but in that moment the ref was as well. It’s not easy to give a pen against Bayern Munich with the last kick of the game

Very disappointing performance and result really. Yes Bayern have an attacking threat but we have been defensively assured for most this season but then look totally naive in this match. We also never really tested them, the goals came from the only time we got at them and it was pretty simple when we did but we struggle with that when we are the dominant side expected to take it on.

I think Bayern are probably favourites over there as I don't think we have the ability to hurt them on the counter like they can do to us and are weapon is too try to defend it out and leave it up to a penalty shoot out or slim margin outcome. We've made a lot of progress this season with what we've shown so far but that performance to me shows we still have a way to go and why there is some doubt as can we close it out when it counts ultimately.

For people who are still clueless go look at the very beginning. Saka was running at full pelt and by checking back in, it was natural for him to jump. He was already jumping even before Neuer stretched out a leg to bring him down. He can't be predicting Neuer to tackle him at that stage.

Also if you look carefully, Saka never once looked at Neuer, he was firmly focused on the ball and once skipping past him he was prepared to shoot.

Lastly, look at Neuer reaction. He was guilty as charged

It’s crazy, especially on the big stage. We’ve seen shit the bed repeatedly in the CL for years despite being arguably the best side for a while.

On the plus side, Villa should feel like a low pressure game.

Burnwinter the thing is Saka didn't hang out a leg intentionally. Look at how he often check back, he likes to jump to stop his movement immediately for a shot. It was a natural movement made to look unnatural because Neuer was determined to block him

Burnwinter I also felt live in the stadium with no replay that Saka was playing for the penalty rather then trying to go for goal which personally I want a player to do.. If it's on the opposition I dislike it as well make a genuine attempt to finish the chance and you probably get brought down and it looks more organic. I haven't seen replays but that's what I felt seeing it live that he was not trying to score but trying to make the penalty so I can see the ref coming to a similar safe decision at the end.
