Nwaneri signing his contract would make me feel a little bit better about the Madueke signing. In my mind Madueke comes at the expense of one of Nwaneri, Eze or Rodrygo. Out of the 3, losing Nwaneri would've been unacceptable.

Nwaneri is going to simply bench someone when he's ready, and I don't think it particularly matters who. Aside from Saka none of them are in the same tier talent-wise from what I've seen (and that's not a knock on any of them).

Think it's gonna be like Kaka at Milan. They go and buy Rui Costa who's the best and most expensive playmaker in the world at that time, and a year later he has lost his spot to an 18-year-old who just arrived. When the elite players are ready they're ready, and they will move whoever is blocking them out of their way.

Assuming Madueke replaces Sterling and Eze replaces Trossard, we’ll have eight players covering these four positions. While the exact number of minutes will vary - especially since Merino played some time as an emergency striker, and the total includes domestic cup minutes (League Cup SF, FA Cup R1) and CL matches (Top 8 + SF) - we can reasonably expect the total minutes to remain in the 21,000-23,000 range barring any extraordinary circumstances.

Nwaneri should be guaranteed 1,000+ minutes through domestic cups, sub appearances in the league, and possibly 1-2 starts in the CL group stage against weaker opposition. As Klaus said, it’s ultimately up to him to force his way into the team ahead of more senior players. If he doesn’t back himself to compete for minutes with the likes of Merino or Madueke, then he lacks the mentality needed to reach his full potential.

Nwaneri needs to displace Harvey Elliot in th U-21 before we seriously talk about him being a first teamer at Arsenal. Not knocking his talent but we shouldn't assume he's going to be a big part of the coming season.

Mirth why do we give a shit about Eliot? That makes no sense to me. He does not play for Arsenal. I can name you a shit load of cases where shit players get in the national teams before better players for various reasons, look no farther then Ben White, or Gabriel not making the brazilian team for a long time. Or Dechamp playing any kind of dross before Saliba for the longest time, or having the most amazing midfielders out there but yet still playing every second with the absolute trash that is Rabiot. In the Romanian national team I can give you 6 names that have no business being selected yet play every game for a series of reasons. So I really don't get bringing Eliiot into this lol

Also while I take your point that getting into a national team isn't a certified mark of quality, by and large I'm sure you'll agree the outstanding talents of the nation usually start for their country.

It's not just Ellliot, Nwaneri wasn't a stand out for the U-21 in this tournament this when he did feature. Essentially two sets of coaching teams - Arsenal and England - have decided that he's not quite there yet. That's not a big deal for an 18 year old at all but it's risk for us to assume he'll make the step up in 25/26.

Eze might be thought as a bit of an insurance policy in that regard (I think he's coming to play LW primarily).

If he has any sense at all he'll be accepting this fact and working on it. We haven't heard what may have been demanded about playing time or role, other than the hint he's preferred an attacking midfield role.

I would like Nwaneri to have a look as Ødegaard's second in the chart anyway. He doesn't quite have the tactical chops to start there, but that awareness is exactly what he needs to add to his game. He'd still be bloody dangerous drifting around, but if he also learnt everything Ødegaard does positioning and pressing he'd join the football elite.

Burnwinter Arteta might've learned the lesson from last year about running players into the ground. Odegaard will get rest and Nwaneri will have to jump to take the opportunity. Noni coming in doesn't change that, neither does Eze. We're selling Trossard or limiting his playing time so there plenty of time for everyone.
