I can’t see why we’d hold him if he wants to go elsewhere. If he’s turning his nose up at fighting for a place with the league champions is that really a character you want around the squad? Especially when you contrast that with the seemingly more humble and hard-working approach of MLS.

As for Chelsea though, I don’t see that we would get a good enough deal for him to go there. They won’t be paying big money, they’ll give him a long contract, and as a result of that it would be unfavourable for them to have a sell-on clause as part of the deal.

There was the same smoke around Myles until he suddenly started that Fulham game. A lot of the transfer stuff is speculation and unsettling.

WTF? so where is the ode backup foolishness coming from? i get that he may not be a real winger because he doesn't have the pace (even by our slow winger standards) and defenders were handling him pretty easy once the scouting report hit, but he NEEDS to be close to goal from central positions. instead of twerking for alvarez maybe we should really concentrate on developing our own in this clearly insane market.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert not sure about that tbh. I don't follow Marseille, but he didn't have any of the attacking positions locked down.

Burnwinter Getting that feeling too. Nothing much to go on but I think Arteta would be willing to fight tooth and nail to not lose Myles or Dowman, and I'm not getting that feeling about Nwaneri at the moment.

The fans have this idea that Madueke is taking minutes from Nwaneri, but I think Arteta is looking at Dowman right now and wonders what Ethan contributes with that Max can't over the next 12 months. When you're no longer the hottest talent on the block you need to keep your head down a bit and show you're willing to put in the hard work.

From what's being reported I don't think Ethan, rightly or wrongly, has done that to a degree that has satisfied Arteta. And the fault might very well be Arteta's too: he hasn't really shown so far that he has the soft qualities you need to develop these pampered youth players. What he has shown is low patience with players who don't exhibit the correct character and attitude right from the start though.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert he was playing for DeZerbi pretty regularly. The new guy came in and was probably looking to prepare for this season as much as anything so didn't use him much.

Klaus seems like Arteta agreed for them to feel out the market with Myles. He obviously likes him but I don't see him fighting tooth and nail to keep him.

Klaus From what's being reported I don't think Ethan, rightly or wrongly, has done that to a degree that has satisfied Arteta.

I honestly think it's just a football problem and maybe a coach problem. Simplest put I think Arteta wants his wingers to be athletic, and his midfielders to be metronomic, secure, elite tactically and at reading the play.

Nwaneri has outstanding and even elite traits, but Arsenal is intensely competitive. The club will keep sidelining him unless he finds another level. Really don't trifle with the notion it's because Arteta is mean, Nwaneri is a layabout or either of them is thick.

Either way I really like Ethan and I hope everything works out for him. As I said in another thread, the fact that we refused to include any sell options in the deal and told Dortmund that we expect him to come back is good news.

Nwaneri is in a similar boat that Saliba was in when we signed White and was loaned out. I fully expect Nwaneri to be back here.

i hope you're right then in a few years when he's tearing it up we can pretend it was all in our heads that he wasn't really rated and we only found a good landing spot for him because another player injured his knee. it's all a part of the masterplan.

He is too talented to give up on. We should be doing all we can to develop and field our best home grown talent. This is what football is all about.
