Nwaneri excites me and I look forward to watching him play every weekend but comparing him to Yamal is ridiculous IMO. Yamal is a genuine top 10 player in the world and better than anyone we have IMO - yes that includes Saka, Ode etc. Forget his dribbling or wonderful shot technique, his playmaking skills are ridiculous for someone so young. My memory maybe deceiving me, but I don't remember Messi's playmaking being this good around Yamal's age.

People always going way OTT on exotic youngsters. No league and no international tournament has the physical demands of the PL and the lack of protection from refs for skillful and speedy players. It's just harder to compete as a kid in that environment.

The way Ethan rides gnarly challenges and powers through the thick, box-packing thuggery of the PL without any protection from refs is out of this world. To show such class and skill while doing it is another level entirely.

It’s quite hard comparing anyone to Messi from 20 years ago knowing now what Messi has since gone on to achieve. Maybe if we had a Messi scouting report from back then. It’s crazy to think he made his debut in 03 and just 6 years later he won that treble.

I remember when he first scored and Ronaldinho set him up and then had him up on his back! The first time when I really thought this guy was gonna be something special was against Chelsea. That Chelsea team snuffed out the best attacking players in world football and there you have Messi literally taking the piss out of them. They tried kicking him off the pitch and he just kept coming back at them. Think he was like 18 or something and remember just thinking wow, this is some serious fucking player here.

I remember when we signed Fabregas we were pushing hard for Messi. They let Fabregas slip but threatened to go nuclear if we didn't back off on Messi, Barca knew what kind of talent they had on their hands.

Yamal might get close (but still fall short) and if Nwaneri can keep pace with Lamine, then we'll have a generational talent on our hands but at the moment, he's about a year behind Yamal despite being older. Let's see where he is this time next season and if he's managed to hold down a place in the first team. To be in conversation with Yamal, he needs to be a genuine MVP for a top side because that is what Yamal is for Barca.

This reminds me a little bit of the time where our fanbase got carried away and thought Cesc was superior to Xavi and Iniesta. Nothing wrong with rating our players but there is a long way to go yet.

Also, if Barca have made Rapinha and Yamal work as wingers we can with Saka and Nwaneri. That should be the aim next season and go all in on a forward.

Sicario2 he was also the best player at the Euros and scored arguably the goal of the tournament against the favourites in a high pressure moment. He's on a different level at the moment and there's no problem with that. Yamal is a genuine one off and it's up to Nwaneri over the next year or so to show that he can hang with him. I personally think he will be able to, but he hasn't done it yet so I'm happy to wait until he has to say he's better than/as good as Yamal.

Yamal got MOTM awards as a 15 year old and decided the Euros semi final vs France as a 16 year old. At the age Mbappe another wonderkid got his first professional goal Yamal had already won the Euros and broke the assist record in the process.

It's not fair to compare Nwaneri to him, we should just enjoy that we seem to have another world class talent turning out for us. Only thing outside injuries I'm concerned is if he develops a case of Alli/Fodenitis where he goes for goal all the time, I like that he backs himself to have a go but he needs to find some balance to releasing a team mate.

Sicario2 Goals at this young age aren't always a good indicator, Messi around a similar age scored around 5 or 6 goals but when you actually watched Messi you could see what he could become. Yamal is a live wire for Barca, type of player you'd buy a ticket to watch.

Agreed, Nwaneri is one of the top young talents in world football but Yamal looks heir to the Messi/C.Ronaldo throne type talent. It is an unfair comparison and we should just let players be rather than starting these stupid comparisons.

Agree with all of this. We are talking about being as good as the best in the game. There are 500 professional players in the premier league alone. Nwaneri is going to be top 5-10 within that entire group if he keeps developing. That’s phenomenal. Doesn’t need to be number 1.

In this team its a welcome break from the players who constantly shirk responsibility in front of goal.

I think the comparisons to Messi and Lamal are off base for Nwaneri personally if we look at play style. Lamal is clearly a winger and will be his entire career. Messi is the GOAT for me personally and I’ve never seen anyone even remotely like him in terms of his touch on the ball and ability to run at speed with the ball never leaving his immediate perimeter. Nwaneri is already more powerful than both of those players to me though and his ball striking on both feet is ahead of any 17 year old I can remember outside of maybe Rooney. He’s got some elements of Rooney’s toughness and ball striking, Hazard’s balance and touch on the ball and the half space crossing of KDB. Ultimately I think his best role will likely be the Odegaard advanced midfield spot.
