Gazza M tet just needs to develop some risk appetite for playing between the lines, and direct through the middle to the strikers. yes it exposes you to more transitions because you could lose the ball more, but we have individual defenders that are fantastic at recovering and winning 1 on 1 battles
I thought at first Arteta wanted that tbh but it seems a personnel issue. Well maybe a bit of both considering Arteta is the one who buys and plays the players.
Both games recently where we've dominated Liverpool and created loads of chances were games where we changed the midfield set up, played Jorginho behind Rice, and pushed Havertz up top. This resulted in defences being occupied, and these passes you mention being made. Similarly the game against City early this season.
The games where we're missing Partey and Jorginho, we've tended to play more horseshoe-ish and we need to find solutions for that. One solution is to bring Jorginho in there but he really needs to be managed physically, both in terms of fitness, as well as support, but in the games against the smaller teams where we oen them in I'd trust Rice and the back 4 to be more than enough for that.
It's absolutely crucial to buy someone for next season who is able to quickly see those passes and play them to put the opposition on the back foot and their midfield facing their own goal. Doesn't need to be someone as technically good with the ball as Partey, but at least someone like Alonso who is constantly looking for the forward pass when it's on.
Don't know if Zubi-whatever is that guy, or whether we are really even interested in him but there has to be someome across Europe who fits that bill. Will be a hell of a lot easier finding that than this complete number 9 we're looking for and will help us score more goals even if Haverts et al are unclinical just simply from the number of chances we'd be able to create if we're not giving the opposition time to set their stalls.
