I'm sure I've seen them at events like tennis or golf so spectators can hear commentary, whereas at the rugby I'm sure it was just ref audio. I used it for a few games but struggled to hear it in the crowd and got fed up with the tight bastard in front of me constantly demanding updates from others rather than buying his own.
