Coombs Well I can't base my expectation on what we spent in 2010-2014. I can only talk about recent investment and results. And I get what you mean and I agree with you, and the fact that the value of the players is not the same as they used to be, any decent player is now worth 50 mil...but still, I was talking about investment and expectation. You said that it was not the investment that made you have higher expectation , but it 100% is for me. If you spend no money nobody will expect you to do anything in this league, if you spend the most...well we need to see results. Nobody expected anything from Wenger for about 10 years when we're broke, right? The he started spending money and he was gone in 3 years.
All I was saying is that because of how much money we put into this team, we should have big expectations, like you know, not going out of every cup in the first round every single year, not being embarrassed in europe every year and being there at the top in the league, I get it if we do not win it, Liverpool & City have better teams and much, much better managers.
I just don't like this idea that what Arteta is doing nobody else could have done with this team. Like he has been working a miracle with very little, thats not the truth. Bet money, you give 700 million british pounds & 3rd biggest wage bill in the league plus time(plus the 100% backing of the board), 4.5 years to build a squad to a lot of manager out there and they do a great job. At least 10 manager could do that or better.
Again, investment is why I have expectation for once, and the money we put into this team had a lot to do with why we went up so many levels. Unpopular opinion probably, but I think money contributed more to that then Arteta and his coaching.
