Yeah the disallowed goals for England and Australia in the last couple of days in particular just don't make any sense. The purpose of offside should be to stop an advantage being gained by the player receiving the ball starting on the wrong side of a defender.

Possibly one of the games of the tournament so far that between South Africa and Italy. Should have gone to that one in hindsight. Would have been a bit unpleasant in the stadium though, it's been a shithouse night here!

I went to France Panama last night. Got there an hour early to soak in the atmosphere and discovered I was sat across the aisle from the Panama drum band! So fantastic atmosphere but I'm a wee bit deaf this morning. Great game too. Panama scored first with a contender for goal of the tournament - a beauty of a free kick from fully 30 yards or more - in the second minute! France won 6-3 but Panama, at 5-3, had the crowd fully behind them even booing the French whenever they dared take possession of the ball back from Panama.

At the end the Panama players came over to where the drummers had been going non stop and climbed into the crowd with us - here's my video.

There's been some great games and great atmosphere and basically none of diving or dirty play that happens in the men's games. I'll have gone to 5 of the 9 Wellington games by the end of it and the regret is not going to more games or not going to games in other towns etc. Obviously easier to go to games where you live and it gets pretty expensive when you need flights and accommodation in multiple places during something like this.
Really gutted England didn't end up in a group playing in NZ.

Saturday night I'm going to the round of 16 match between Japan and Norway. Then next Friday the quarter final which will be Spain/Switzerland vs Netherlands/South Africa - that QF was predicted to be USA vs Norway pre-tournament which shows the beauty of these things not being played on paper. I've already seen Netherlands and South Africa in the matches I've been to so far so good to see a few different teams too. As a neutral it would be cool to see a penalty shootout live.

Good to see Germany bundled out early. They beat Morocco 6-0 in the first game and Morocco go through ahead of them. 😆
Any predictions for the round of 16?
So hard to predict any game. I do fancy Sweden to get past USA based on what we've seen from both teams so far but you can never count out the team who always win this thing.
