The ACL is in the center of the knee and it holds everything in place. When it goes the femur and tibia can move back and forth independently of each other which can cause damage to other parts of the knee and present pain in other areas.

How long generally is ACL? I saw Madrid players projecting to come back next season, or is that depending on the severity of the tear?

Yeah it's a minimum of six months, that's the best case scenario. I did my ACL when I was 29 and my recovery took 15 months, and I never regained full leg extension (98/99%, so close). I had complications (had to get a second op after 9 months) and he'll obviously get a higher standard of care, though, so fingers crossed for the lad.

Yep he's out for the season poor guy. Terrible news. Such a bad injury for footballers too. Hope his recovery goes well and he comes back stronger 😭. I'm gutted for him.

Not the first time Arteta has carried on with an injured player and they got further injured (Saka at Notts Forrest at home).

Him and the Doctor are to blame for this.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 When Arteta pushed the blame firmly on the doctor in the presser you know it isn't a small injury.

Tbh with such injuries I never get the blame on the player himself. The doctor have to give the proper advice. Can't be based on just the player feelings.

Not sure if we could blame the manager if the doctor instruction was that the player is fine and he could run it off, pain is temporary etc.

saliba too. got hurt at fulham and then starts in a europa league game. he has this idea that elite players (or those who have the potential to get there) shouldn't need rest.

Clrnc I think that's certainly my worry not just in the immediate term but these are tough injuries and at the highest level any loss of level can be pretty significant.

Hard to say. With advances in medical technology, players have been able to come back faster than before. Timber's young so he has the benefit of time and faster recovery than an older player. These athletes are also the most elite specimens and get world class recovery and 24/7 rehab.

Different sports, but Kroneke's other teams had key players tear their ACL and come back and dominate their respective sports (and trophies). Cooper Kupp and Jamal Murray.

I'm actually pretty damn sad absout this. I really liked him in that LB role and thought his versatility would be invaluable.

Hopeful that maybe it's not a full tear of the ACL, but it's going to be months whatever the case.
