Coombs Big Willie I get good vibes so far, and the dorkiness is a typical trait of leaders … helps them to influence others if they don't appear to be too cool for school. Bit like Gerrard but brighter.

Be interesting to see how the balance of "leadership" does go in the side. Be great to avoid any repeat of the period last season when the main "shouters" in our side simultaneously dropped off in form as we stumbled through a series of shitty results.

Wouldn’t worry so much about the price. Our squad was good enough to challenge til round 36 last year. We just need finishing touches, and the group of players who can improve us now is narrow. We are no longer in the buy a Tierneh phase. We need the absolute best, of whom there’s limited supply, so their costs will be massive. City discussed a similar amount for this player.

Claudius Yeah price is such a yesterday thing. I think as Arsenal fans we have been conditioned for decades about Limited funds and getting value from the market.

It's no longer the case as time has shown and we have enough sample size to see that if we want to spend we can spend and no amount of write offs or overspending can stop us (unless FFP tightens). Basically spending like Chelsea and City in their hey days

Clrnc I don’t think we can spend like City. Their entire squad is composed of £50m players and they’ve spent over £250m more buying it. Arsenal fans lost their minds over £50m Ben white who is one of the first names on our team sheet. City could casually throw £40m at Ake.

But the big place we will never compete with city is salaries. Haaland is rumoured to warn £30m a year while our best players sit on £10m.

This is a mental assertion.

There's been enough videos and articles this summer about 'how are Arsenal spending so much?'. I'd recommend you go watch or read one of them.

The short answer is no, we're not artificially inflating our commercial income, and no, we're not racking up well over 1bn in debt to our owners. In fact the only debt KSE have taken on is the pre-existing stadium loan.

There's factors that have allowed our massive outlay at are unlikely to continue, our wage bill is going to grow quite a bit for a start.

The good news is having the youngest squad in the league should mean that we should be able to focus our spending, so if we just wanted to sign Osimhen next summer...

Pepe LeFrits we were very lucky with a bunch of signings not working out/our 2nd choice signings working much better than anticipated. We wanted Koundé and Tapsoba ahead of White, Maddison or Buendia over Odegaard, Mudryk and Neto over Trossard etc.

Caicedo instead of Jorginho could've possibly meant the title but with Arteta's luck in the market he'll probably flop at Chelsea while Rice becomes hopefully a fixture for a title winning team.

I'm not sure we ever wanted Maddison or Buendia and they were never first choice ahead of Odegaard. Those were media links or we were putting out feelers to put pressure on R.Madrid to sell to us. Koundé would have been a great pick up to be fair.

Be interesting to see how Mudryk does this season, reckon he'll be a hell of a lot better than what we've seen. He's got the type of manager he needs to get the best out of him.

Yeah, good players failing elsewhere isn't proof that they'd fail here. Generally speaking, signing players with a plan for how they fit it make them much more likely to succeed.

We waited all summer for Odegaard while those guys were available. He was always our number 1 target for that position.

I'd also reject the idea that it was Caicedo or Rice. There seems to have been a very clear want for both at one point. I think the prices just didn't work out for us to get the 2 of them. If we'd signed Caicedo for the £70m we offered we'd still have gone hard for Rice IMO.
