JazzG the Alonso story is well known. They didn't do some great job holding out, we just didn't cough up the asking price.

And frankly I'm glad we never signed Suarez. He's a massive piece of shit.

Klaus we moved off Higuain to go after Suarez, fucked that up and panic bought Ozil. I've always been convinced if we just stuck with the Higuain deal we'd have been much better off, we already had Santi playing CAM for us, we didn't need Ozil.

That’s fair. People forget Cazorla scored 12 goals in the league that season he played off the striker. It’s testament to his ability and personality that he adapted and was successful as a CM after Ozil came but we definitely needed a striker back then.

That said Higuain came with his own burdens

Suarez and his agent leaked the release clause to Arsenal. He was literally in the papers telling Liverpool to let him leave as they promised. I vividly remember his derpy face on the cover of The Guardian (I think) when he was giving interviews to any newspaper that would listen.

Agreed, Suárez was never on but we fucked around with Higuaín and missed out on him over a few million. Higuaín wasn't at the same level talent wise, but he remained a consistent goal machine for years after that.

There was a hell of a lot of opportunity wasted between summer 2006 and now, with Wenger it started to feel like we'd just always fuck everything round for no real reason.

Honestly the 2014-2017 team was better than the 5 years before and after.

Maybe not in football terms because I hated the football we played during that period. But we won 3 FA Cups in there which is more than we did in all the other seasons combined since we won the FA Cup in 2005.

Sicario2 Well deserved but it better not be the only thing Arsenal wins this season!

Martin, Deckers and Gabi are our captains IMO. All of them organise the team around them. Saka got the armband just for tenure tbh. Not that I mind too much, only one person can wear it, but we can have those 3 captains on the pitch at any time.
