These are the moments that create future Arsenal fans. How many kids around the world were watching that and have those free kicks stuck in their mind for the next 20 years? How many go to kick a ball around with their mates and be "I'm Declan Rice"?

Proper legendary performance. On the biggest stage, against the best team in history. Magical stuff.

Once Declan realises how much of a threat he really can be going forward this guy will realise his true level. His engine is unreal and his ball striking is crisp. Those free kicks were hit hard and the flight was perfect, not a lot of players can strike a ball like that.

£105m well spent on him, yesterday was the day he arrived on the big stage.

Adding goals regularly to his game is what will take him truly to a generation player, not just FKs... he constantly talks about getting into the box at the right time which is great to hear.. that's why I've never really liked the idea of playing him as 6, it doesn't play to his strengths.. He's an all action midfielder.

Gurgen -- I know most of us are excited to see him leave, but I don't think any of Rice's limitations have to do with Partey; nor will they be eased by Zubimendi.

He has a tremendous toolset but also some serious limitations as he moves upfield and has to play back to goal.

Anyways....ridiculous to even be thinking about this after such a stellar performance.

Partey has been excellent this season. He was phenomenal yesterday. I think very few people would rate a peak Zubi game right now over a peak Partey game.

MistaT I agree. We are right not to renew Partey but he's going to be very hard to replace. He's been absolutely key for us this season and it'll take someone as good as Zubi coming in and settling immediately to make up for the loss in our midfield. Very probably Rice will have to do even more defensive work for a while which will hamper his ability to add more to his attacking game like we all want.

Anyway back onto Rice. I was thinking if he could just score 2-3 free kicks a season it'd be huge for us. Imagine adding that to last season and just turning one of those draws to a win. These are margins.

You have to give Arteta a lot of credit for his vision of what Rice could become. He has pushed for him to be box-to-box and add goals to his game, when nobody else was saying that.

Claudius I think this is very fair - a peak Partey game is certainly tough to top. I'd argue we see less than a handful of them a year these days so I'd rather have someone who is going to give me 75-80% of that peak performance almost every game, while eliminating most of the brain farts and also adding some tempo to our play. The off the field benefits of not having to root for a serial rapist speak for themselves.

We should try to create quick layoffs for Rice and Partey to shoot first time around the box more often. If anything, it creates chaos from deflections, rebounds, unsighted keeper, etc. which is how you'd expect to be hurt if you allow yourself to be pinned back.

As for Rice, he's the closest there is right now to Gerrard. Different games obviously, but all-action midfielders who can do it all.

So is your inability to see his shortcomings. My opinion on his football hasn't changed since the day he arrived, garbage human or no. He has about 5 brilliant games a year. The rest of the time he is at best a decent passer and at worse someone who slows our game down considerably. And nearly always a defensive liability in transitions. But he does a couple of body faints and people love him. As I said, once you have real top class in that position, you will see the difference.

I've been keen to send him on for a while for football reasons too. Even if you just look at the past two seasons his inconsistency has affected us often. It's unavoidable that some derive a tiny hint of enjoyment from being staunchly pragmatic about him having been accused of rape or sexual misconduct by multiple women—I predict we won't miss his football at all.
