Claudius The recent cluster of "perfect" seasons are a consequence of the game changing, rather than the standards in the league or at the top of it becoming absolutely higher.
What we're looking at is arguably the high pressing era, something like when catenaccio ruled in Italy, that'll become easier to point at once its tactical weaknesses are better exposed and it recedes to some extent.
For the time being, teams are said to "have to be perfect" (employ a ruthless high press, invest heavily in elite recovery defenders, eat hot chip and lie) to compete for honours, hence this 90+ point theory. Financial doping also, always, of course.
I suspect we may already have turned the corner, as these tactics are now used across the league, when 5–10 years ago it was only a couple of clubs. Among managers we're seeing a very systematic clearout of the earlier generation that has lacked the detailed pedagogy or eye for recruitment to match these tactics. Throw out Hodgson for Glasner at Palace and suddenly they can play. Bring in Iraola at Bournemouth and after four months they're competitive.
Because of that I suspect it won't be 90+ points required every season in the future.
