Didn't even realise we played. Even Arse.com didn't mention an upcoming game aside from thr game on the 13th. Just a random post match report. Guess it just wasn't streamed anywhere maybe, as I can't see any other reason they wouldn't have it on the main site as the next game.

Trophies vs experience argument feels a bit false to me. The experience and journey last season was great because we had the possibility of winning. We don’t go mad in the Bournemouth game if we were in 8th. The title challenge is what made that moment:

On the other hand losing didn’t ruin the journey, it was still one of my favourite seasons in terms of emotions and connection with the team. You can enjoy the experience without it depending on the outcome.

The two go hand in hand.

goon I think if you are always second that can create a negative impact though. Just the experience of being used to playing finals and getting results I think does make a difference to the culture of teams.

I agree it doesn't make it a bad season but that Bournemouth moment does mean less. It felt amazing because at the time it felt like this could directly contribute to a title. Now there is less to that so it won't have the same impact for me.

Burnwinter which would have been the case this season. We just needed to win the two games against them. Overall we still need to build resilience against big teams, particularly northern ones. Go and beat them in their own shit holes. That’s the next step.

Not necessarily a direct replacement as I feel the system will permit both but it wouldn’t shock me if he did just that

I dont know, Gabriel formed a good partnership with Saliba, and it will take quite a bit extra from Kiwior to displace him for first choice.

Gabriel was arguably one of our best players last season. I can't even remember the mistakes he made. If Kiwior can elevate his game to that level, we're in for a treat. I don't see it yet honestly

My opinion changed after watching us in pre-season. We are not ready at all, and the team is full of red flags. We cannot defend, we have about 20 defenders at the club, but still, it's been more then 7 months since we last defended well. Our transition is crap, we got done by everyone, Monaco, a shit team, lets be honest, created non stop chances, just walked in our box while we had a good back 4 and Rice - Partey in front. We were opened like a bottom tier team. I'm not very happy with Ramsdale either, and then we get the links ... and it's someone worse.

I think we got most of our transfers wrong. And we also ignored major issues in the squad. Saka still has no back-up(I don't even want to type this shit, but if he gets a injury like say Jesus got now, we are fucked). And of course we have no back-up striker, hell I would say our main striker, our star...is not what we really need either. We can and should improve on Jesus as well.

We have a huge squad, and if Arteta stays the same, and never rotates...people will not be happy. Yeah, you can keep them happy for a period but only if you win...if we start loosing, you will start seeing people talking to the press about playing time.
The pressure will also be huge this season, and up until now, we have seen that this team and Arteta do not handle pressure well at all. So thats another thing that must change...and I'm not confident it will.

All that said, we are still a good team and Top 4 should be easy for them. But title? No, not this year. Shame, as I think with how many players left City (and a few still wanting to leave) + the fact they won it all last year will fuck with the motivation in that team...it would have been a good season to go for it. But I don't think we have enough. It will be more of Arsenal past world cup, not pre world cup.

I'm optimistic, that even if Arteta has been trash in europe all his life, in the CL, the enthusiasm of the young boys (playing for the first time, after this long) and the public...we will a have decent ride. We won't win it or get close to the final...but we will get to the quarters probably, and have some good games along the way.

And with this huge squad, we are well positioned to do well in the FA Cup and League Cup as well.

HomeSteak the defending is the main concern. It's really quite shocking despite how many good defenders and DMs we now have.

I assume the major CF signing will come in January (opportunistically) or next summer (a long-time target).

No Saka backups, STILL, is quite pathetic. As is our inability to shift players and especially for non-insulting money.

Sicario2 - Tier 1

Will write on this thread after City on Sunday.

That’s the only pre-season game that counts which will tell us a lot about what’s going to occur this season.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 even that I don't take all that seriously. It'll tell us a bit more but not the whole story. We certainly don't look as ready for the new season as we did last year but pre-season isn't all that illustrative. Its mainly to gain fitness and its very chop and changey which we don't deal well with. Thats the main thing I agree with @HomeSteak on, can Arteta manage a big squad? It'll define our season IMO.

Think we beat them in Guardiola's first preseason too.

We haven't beaten them in the league for 8.5 years though.

I've mentioned my take on what I'm looking at this season. I don't ever look or care about pre season personally it is pretty irrelevant as far as I am concerned The game against forest is where I'll begin scrutinising us.

But my core expectation is unchanged. Last season was exceptional particularly that first half. As I've said before my gut feeling is it was a perfect storm the kind of natural variation that comes about every so often and we may revert to something closer to the 2nd half of the season.. So the challenge I see is can this yeah show that isn't the case, that they can repeat that level. The way we tailed off and looked pretty awful defensively in the second half of the season and in particularly that later run in give me quite a lot of concern.

It's those areas I want to see us demonstrate that really were just an anomaly. These are questions I'd have with our without anything in preseason

Panda Agree with that. We "put the pressure on." Trophies are what it's all about now.
