The frustrating thing for me about this transfer is that we had 3 years of evidence of what his performance level had been so I don't know why that would be so easily disregarded. Even if Arteta did want to take a punt then he's a 25m player and you don't give him 300k wages. That is all terrible decision making even not analysing what he's been like here. Another aspect of Arteta where there are worries for me and one reminiscent of William with his dedication to him.

It was just weird how some fans argued his technical ability is actually good. Not often you see such an extreme case of wishful thinking and bias.

Didn't Willian push for a move himself despite us wanting to keep him? He even gave up the remaining 2 years on his deal so he could leave. Somehow I don't see Havertz doing the same.

Qwiss I don't think it should be, but you could almost argue it's a sackable offence. I was optimistic this signing would work out, but as you and quite a few others, awooga83 for sure, pointed out at the time, there was nothing to suggest it would. We've signed a crap player and pushed someone like Smith Rowe further down the depth chart in the process, I'd love to know what the thinking was behind this. And why we keep going to Chelsea for their crap - and they have a lot of it.

Nah I'm thinking Willian. He gave up the remainder of his contract with us so he could leave, even taking a big pay cut cut so he could go back to Brazil at the time.

Big Willie not disputing him giving up his contract, I am saying that it was obvious Arsenal had no use for him by the time he left. He played 37 times for us that season, 9 appearances in the Europa League, 25 league games and basically had become persona non grata by the new year and the Smith Rowennaisance. I don't know if you remember Tet's face when Willian scored a last minute free kick, his only goal for us, in the last weeks of the season...

Big Willie yea, but I'm 100% sure it had a lot to do with Edu being bff with his agent. He did us a solid...considering the amount of money we put in his pocket. No way he would have left if things were different.

Big Willie respect to Willian for that, can't see Havertz doing the same unfortunately. Worse still can't see anyone wanting to take him off our hands next transfer window even at a massively discounted price. The whole Arsenal decision making team need a good slap for making such a massive costly blunder.

You are right. What worries me is that we have paid top dollar for Havertz. Willian came for pennies and yet Arteta persisted with him like for 15 matches in a row. What will be the case with Havertz? Maybe he keeps playing him the whole season even if he keeps doing and scoring nothing.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 He's been getting worse for sure and deservedly benched.

Having said that, he does have the attributes to turn his form around. Just like Vieira (or Xhaka) who started the season at the bottom of the pile and has slowly worked his way up.

It's still early and even seemingly bad players can find their role in good teams. Like Xhaka. However, that is a rare thing, and Havertz has not just looked terrible for us, he looked terrible for Chelsea for three years.

You can’t compare Xhaka to Havertz mate.

Xhaka despite all his faults was a fucking nutter/warrior.With that kind of personality it was possible for him to turn it around with a few tweaks.

Havertz is a pussy and coward, not sure mentally he has it in him.

Vieria has surprised me and has shown a bit of pride.

Mirth Vieira is younger and was coming from a much lower league. And he's still only hitting the point where he looks like he has potential now. Long way to actually coming good.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 I think you're missing the key story with Xhaka's redemption arc and it's the way Arteta changed his role tactically. Xhaka showed that being nutter and warrior counted for nothing over 6 years.

It's continued karma for fans who despite being proven wrong on Xhaka still couldn't wait to see the back of him and argued all season how it would be easy to upgrade him.

dunno why we didn't punt on SMS. he's older than we'd like, but slotting a veteran like him in next to rice and odegaard would've been good. he could fulfil lots of xhakas responsibilities, maybe with less defensive appetite, but with more attacking threat. he has the much vaunted benefit of height as well

Mirth Don't think Arteta had to do much ,it was obvious over the years with the Swiss national team that he would be more effective in that role. The really perplexing thing was previous managers ignoring this and trying to make him play differently
