My positivity towards his signing was due to the notion that Chelsea were misusing him as a striker and that deploying him as an attacking midfielder would bring out his best qualities.
However, he appears very passive in possession and doesn't seem to want to create anything through a pass or dribble. Ironically, he actually looks better when he is up front, with his back to goal, laying the ball off to the nearest man.
Looking at his Leverkusen stats, he scored way more goals than he assisted so perhaps he's not a creative player and more of a goalscoring midfielder.
