That was the worst Auba Emirates performance ever and I’ve seen some stinkers. He didn’t want to even be there - body language said it all. Must have had less than 8 touches, so glad to see his career go down the drain.

Sicario2 - Tier 1 You say in your initial post that it's "nothing personal" with Auba, but you were calling him out every time he didn't score when he was here, did the same when he moved to Barcelona and continue to shit talk now he's at Chelsea... meanwhile the rest of us here seemed to have moved on and really couldn't care less.

I'd say this is the very definition of personal.

This had me reaching for my phone in disbelief to check the table, but it's true - 39 to 38. More than a goal a game isn't great and is probably what will cost us the title. That, and the money of the Nation State FC.

Yeah, the most any title winning side have conceded over the last 8 years or so is 36 goals and that was Leicester, otherwise it's 33. We've scored a lot of goals but even if you think back to Villa, Bournemouth etc. some of these games have been more hard work than they needed to be.

Hopefully it's just a case of refinement though. I do think it's easier to concede fewer goals than it is to score as many as we have. We've already scored 8 more than we did in the Invincibles season.

United have spent significant funds for over a decade and look where they are right now.
Boehly's Chelsea have one of the best squads in Europe yet are languishing closer to the relegation zone than to title contention.
City have a host of financial charges stacked against them right now...who knows what will happen with that.

My point is, whilst having loads of money stacks the odds heavily in your favour (see Man City as an example of a well-run operation, minus the potential rule-bending...) it does not guarantee success. I think many of us are starting to feel that the club is finally heading in the right direction in terms of how it's run and whilst we don't have an oil state backing us, we're hardly poor. Wenger's glory days were a measure of achieving success through smart operational decisions and practices that set us apart from some of the more financially powerful clubs around; that is the mindset we need to take in trying to find incremental gains that richer clubs may be ignoring.

Easier said than done but here's hoping...

I'd go one further and copy the 3-2-5-1 Pep is playing as it solves many of the dilemmas we currently have.

Allows us to play Trossard and all of our other attackers.
Removes the need to invert the fullback as you have a square in the middle at all times.
Removes Zinchenko from the defence.
Allows us to sell Tierney without needing to replace him, and also relieves us from needing to sign a RB.
We can sign more CB's which are easier to find and in abundance.
Reduces the attacking burden on Xhaka whilst still keeping him away from the dreaded 6 zone.
Gives Partey some support who has been at sea recently.

I wonder if it requires too much of the defenders, though.

I don't think we're at a level yet where we can change things up too much tactically. The few times it's happened it's felt like nobody was quite sure about their role.
