A lot was made about the defenders not knowing what to do when they stayed in a mid-block. But we know how to handle those situations. We've done them before.
The League cup final was lost in midfield. Hincapie, Zooby and Deckers were both static in the second half, when they should be doing the things we always do which is to force overloads and trigger the press. We did decently in attack in the first half until the midfield came undone.
The single most concerning thing was what lead up to the first goal. Kepa blunder or no, that goal was coming. And it was coming the exact same way the Wolves goals came, the Manc goals came, the Sunderland goals came. It came from us being unable to execute a transition from defence. Again, something we would otherwise always do. The only difference is that we weren't a goal up in this instance. That's one aspect of the coaching that I have yet to see Mikel be able to address. We have seen it countless times.
