Huge day. Would have been catastrophic to lose or drop more points after the last few games and I felt pretty despondent at half time. This feels like a statement.
Great hit from Jorghino. I didn't like him or want him but that's a significant contribution already so fair play. And there's something fitting about Martinez heading in the winner after all the time wasting antics etc. Can't forget how crucial Ramsdale's saves were too. Especially the one from Bailey.

goon Just rewatched the sequence. It was actually genius from Vieira. He took a look behind and saw that nobody was covering Bailey so ran in a straight line to make sure Duran can't pass. Basically he is giving Duran only one option, shoot and hope Ramsdale make the save. If he goes in and cover Duran Bailey has a tap in if Duran makes the pass.

I remember Mustafi or some other idiot used to close down the guy on the ball many times when we got thrashed in the UCL ko stages and the runner has a tap in. Vieira did the VVD style of defence there. Brilliant.

Also, look at Vieira's anticipation and movement for the late corner. He knew the counter was on and positioned himself perfect, calm enough to make that pass in the counter. How many times have we seen a guy fuck up the final pass in those counters? He's brilliant

Hopefully both the team in general and the subs will gain some momentum from this win, Vieira and Martinelli were so happy about that fourth goal. If we have Trossard/Martinelli, Vieira and ESR all able to change games from the bench going forward it will mean so much.

Nketiah is the most worrying player in our current XI, as well as the fact that our defence has been very shady recently. We can't let every match be a fight until the last second.

Clrnc I think Xhaka more than Rasmdale. When we are free flowing it's clear he's the weak link. That does not take away from the exceptional work he's done all season but it may be too much to ask him to maintain that level through to the end.

Clrnc and Odegaard. Did a bit better after the second goal yesterday but generally he looks off. I'm guessing he's tired because he just isn't pressing and tracking like he was most of the season. For their second yesterday he's just jogging around no mans land. Very un-Ode-like.

Villa played some physically intense football, sat deep and tried to hit us on the break. I think we dealt with that just fine, and dominated the match completely. I don't think the physical approach is something we really struggle with. Wolves, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Forest, Manu etc all tried to kick our players, and we dealt with them just fine.
