Not to derail this thread any further buuuuut...

...if we're discussing strikers our fanbase irrationally pine over, Toney's goal record (when you remove penalties) is on par with Giroud. Shot conversion is also similar (Toney's shot conversion last year was inferior to Giroud).

Sounds like they're figuring out financials and recruitment strategy for the summer. Hope we are able to keep Jorg as it's rare you get someone so capable content to play a squad role. Could do with that depth with Partey likely off in the summer (or just generally injured).

Think we can safely say most of us are wrong about this signing. For 12m he probably is one of the best signings out there. He struggled last year because we didn't have someone as quick and athletic as Rice covering him and he got left exposed like a clown trying to track back.

I am not in the business of saying Caicedo and Mudryk are bullets dodged because you just know Arteta will coach them to a high level and Chelsea is a wreck currently (just see Havertz transformation), but for around 37m you probably can't get 2 better squaddies than Jorginho and Trossard so top work by Artedu.

What Jorginho confirmed for us is that this team functions way better with a DLP as we badly need someone who is able to pass between the lines and spot our runners. Rice does not do that at all.

I think this is an important point though. We knew in January that we didn't have Rice and that Jorginho would be left exposed. He definitely wasn't what was needed to get the PL trophy over the line.

But like you say, very happy with him alongside Rice.

With Rice, we've recreated the partnership he had with Kante. My brother's a Chelsea fan and he told me that their team went to shit after Kante stopped playing because he covered so many weaknesses, and I think Rice does the same here.

Honestly, Partey at his peak is exceptional as well, but he's never had the level of performance Jorginho has produced this season. Think about it, Jorginho has on several occasions now stood out as the MOM in a midfield of Rice and Odegaard. That's insanely good.

Qwiss you weren't the only one, to be fair! But he has been largely superb. It's been quite interesting to listen to Clive on the Arsenalvision pod talk about the way he supports players emotionally through a game. I know he's ex Chels, but like Deccers, he just seems to be a top bloke. And his football is pretty, pretty good!

Qwiss Seemed like a bad signing due to his personal friendship with Arteta and getting caught in possession quite a few times.

He's coming good at the moment.

With a couple of our signings (Raya another example) I have concerns when the chips are down. They're very hard to mark down when we dominate the way we have in the league so far in 2024.

That dink to Martinelli is pretty much his trademark.. team needs to absolutely take that into account when he is on the pitch and make more runs into those areas .. such a brilliant weapon to have and sure we could put in to use a lot more

Doc I used to get jealous when I see peak Barca always doing that kind of pass from Xavi/Iniesta to their forwards and don't understand why under Wenger we don't try that more.

Getting the weight right consistently is pretty impossible imo. Easy way to mix up our attack though without changing much else.

Clrnc and when Xavi and Iniesta retired, Messi simply dropped deeper and turned out to be even more capable than them at it. If hockey assists were attributed in football, Messi's stats would be even more ridiculous.

Always liked this signing. Jorginho would’ve struggled on an Emery / late Wenger team, so didn’t want him when he was mentioned as an option then. But on an Arteta team, he’s perfect. A proper artist with the ball.

Maybe it is recency bias. We've been starved this season of someone who can pass short and long, wide and vertical, high and low, and do it at pace.

People keep talking about Zubimendi, and whilst stylistically he might be the right fit, I'm not convinced he is of the required quality. When you think back to how highly rated Jorginho was at Napoli or Partey at At. Madrid, this guy doesn't have half the profile or body of work.
