I don't know what's happened to Saka in general. He used to always make the right decision offensively. Now it feels like he hardly ever does.

Saka was noticeably better yesterday than vs Everton, but clearly not at his best.

I do think he benefits from White. We saw Saka moving laterally more often as he often started on the touching before bursting in field. That’s something he l over to do, but doesn’t happen as often with Timber - due to passing and Timber’s tendency to underlap.

My general impression of him yesterday was really positive. Could have had a couple of goals, created at least one maybe two very good chances, the keeper made a brilliant save from Trossard that came from Saka's pull back.

I know I'm biased, but I genuinely think he really benefitted from Ben White knowing when to support him and when to get out of his fucking way in a way that Jurrien Timber - whilst clearly a spectacular footballer - simply doesn't.

More Ben White please.

And so the question becomes - are we better with White + Saka or Timber and Saka?

A few weeks ago and I would clearly have called for White and Saka. We were desperate for more goals, and I would have accepted a drop off in defense (from Timber to White).

But with Eze coming good and Gyokeres picking up form, I'm not sure it's so clear. Timber really is a magnificent defender, and he finds his way into goals too.

Suppose I want the feel good story of Saka coming good and winning us something, and I've got a soft spot for White that oddly Timber hasn't built fo rme.

We are much better offensively with White. White is just a natural footballer, who does everything right. Timber, on the other hand, is a far better defender, and pretty much impossible to beat 1v1.

It also depends on who is at LB imo. Timber and Hincapie are just too defensive against low blocks even though I rate them both very highly as individuals.

Gyok and Saka had a couple of good exchanges that led to chances for Saka. He took too many touches at the end. This whole beef thing is exaggerated now

In a CL final you play Timber.

Timber is first choice for a reason (even taking into account White’s injury issues).

Coombs I'm more inclined to this view then he had a good game, had a few shots but he's still not doing enough right now I don't know if it's coincidence but he seemed indecisive

Saka is far from his best but that performance was good. "Absolutely awful" is more than hyperbole.

awooga83 He looks lazy out there. I don't think he is, not by a long shot, but he completely lacks any intensity. Sprints are weak, looks keen to win corners more than anything else, seems totally unfit.

awooga83 really? I can understand thinking he wasn't that good - although I had him right in front of me in the first half and I thought he did plenty well - but awful? Awful was last week in Germany, where he literally did nothing right and I think he was levels above that.

RocktheCasbah maybe it's different live? I saw more of the same. Those near post shots felt like borderline copouts.

RocktheCasbah not awful just nowhere near the level I think and hope he's still capable of. I'm this form he's okay dribbling to the byline and winning corners putting deliveries in.

But that type of explosive player running at opposition's and terrifying them he just hasn't been that for me this year and he looks like he doesn't have great explosive pace anymore and doesn't get those guys shots away. I thought he'd be the talisman able to take the kind of Salah or Henry role adding the consistency of output but it's just not happened this and this season does look like a stalling of his progression.

I hope it's just this season but on this level he's blue an elite player for me, he's just good which is what plenty of the prem are at.

Coombs I thought he was good too. Ran into tackles a couple of times but was decent otherwise.

Coombs same as in the same as in Germany? I think he lost the ball every time he got it in Leverkusen - I can't remember the duels stat exactly, but pretty sure it's something like he lost 11/14. He could easily have had a couple of goals and assists last night, that's way above anything he did last week.
