Jesus is a tricky one he's knees are gone and everyone knows it. It would be a miracle if he comes back decent.

We bribed them to come and they shaped the current culture. It was like flipping a light switch the difference in the team.

But the flip side of that is we overpaid. And they're a burden now.

I think we have to acknowledge the pro and the con of those deals.

But with the position we're in now we don't have to bride anyone. So it's a problem that sorts itself.

I don't really think Zinchenkos wage was that outrageous considering at the time he was the nailed on first choice left back. Given his age and experience at the time, where we signed him from, etc it was fine.

I'll never accept that we needed to pay Jesus £265k a week though. That was a ludicrous overpay and no narratives around culture can change that. He'd have come for a lot less, was on the fringes at City and Pep was happy to let him go. He also hadn't been scoring a whole lot for City and was very streaky and had injury issues. Those things continued at Arsenal and here we are with this unsellable albatross around our neck.

Qwiss Yeah basically no one serious was in for Jesus except us. We could have offered him half of what he got and he would've signed. We paid him based on what we thought he'd be worth in the future which is madness. Only Arsenal looked at a notorious crook with the unenviable reputation of being the only striker in existence who had underperformed his xG every season of his career and thought "Let's make him the biggest earner at the club."

Klaus yeah I feel like some of these deals were handed out because we thought it would stop the players from being tapped up by other clubs once they did brilliantly. Bit of hubris from Edu on that.

He joined city on 90k they bumped his wages and added 2 years and then he was on 130-150k. He was super young and had more gears.

We bribed him to come here. Leading top 4 CFs were on 300k. United were shelling that out. City were, Chelsea shelled it out to havertz. We shelled it out to Auba and havertz

Did we overpay, we did from a position of weakness. That's how the world works. But the day Jesus turns up is the day this club turned around. ManU have given lots of forwards that wage who have all added to the shit culture and helped to sink them.

He collided with a keeper and ruined his knee. If he hadn't collided with the keeper he'd still be a regular. These things happen.

Making out like it's the worst thing to happen is hyperbole. The club turns around the day he arrives. Top top players had better options. He's not the signing you make from a position of strength I'll grant you that. And if edu had 5 years more experience does he got him for 60k cheaper, maybe. Would that make an astronomical difference probably not.

Speedster Well said mate. Jesus has become a bit of a burden to us but that's not his fault personally. I do wonder if Edu and Arteta overpaid him but I don't think £200k + per was implausible.

That means people (including me at times) are carrying on about the difference which is about £3–4m per year, and that's an amount most fans would blow on anything on their wishlist on any day of any transfer window ... including on Jesus's own fee on the day we signed him.

Really, if real had pressed him he'd have given the game away. His touch goes terrible under stressful situations, even though he's good on the ball in low pressure situations. Hes not a naturally confident guy

Mbappe just let him have the ball. And he made a few mistakes but they were on an off day so didn't punish us. If they were on it they'd have got the better of him and everyone would want him gone again.

He's got a super silky pass and some great attributes so he's very sellable. But he hasn't looked a top defender.

Speedster you're right. I don't think an elite club would be after him, but surely a good German or Italian club would bite.

Speedster Think your description is spot on and it's probably why we picked up Mosquera this summer. Centrebacks and strikers who lack natural confidence always end up letting you down in the end. Can't have mercurial lads in these positions. As starters they're a waste of time and as squad depth they're unreliable.

After his performances in the run in, I would have thought the Italian clubs would be all over him like a hot snot. What gives, @Klaus ?

Pepe LeFrits I think he probably has suitors from Italy: Milan have been rumoured heavily this summer in the Italian press. I reckon the issue is that they view him kinda like we do: as a squaddie rather than a starter. The clubs that would take him as a starter, i.e. the ones outside the top 6, probably struggle to cope with his wages as well as agent and transfer fees.

Thinking about it a little more, this is probably a good reason to get the Porto deal done. We're not getting any more value out of him unless he goes to another Premier League club, and I'm fairly sure that Mosquera is a much better player already. No point in stocking up on guys who won't play.
