Was there a reason they didn't both play risky expansive football and there was only 1 goal and barely a shot on target? It's almost like 5-4 in a big game was a one off freak event and not the norm after all. I suppose it's our fault though.

Just because they're not accumulating 95+ points anymore doesn't make them any less of a top side. But people disingenuously use their own iterations against them to act like we they can no longer be the reason we don't win.

if he's as good as everyone apparently expects then they won't be playing once a week. the league cup and fa cup still exists. the reason united played less games in total than we won is because they got dumped out of every competition at the earliest stage.

daredevil I think their points total in the league is a very reasonable indicator of their relative quality. They're clearly a very good side just not at the level of previous seasons.

I'm not going to care about how good they are if we win the league though.

I think it's all irrelevant, every season is different which poses newer problems and solutions and you can have seasons where you win more points but win fewer trophies. Such as City centurions vs City treble winners.

How City compare to previous City sides is about as relevant as how we compared to previous Arsenal sides (those that finished 8th for e.g.). No won will claim our 23/24 was a better team than this year's team if we win it, despite accumulating fewer points.

daredevil Uniteds treble side is hailed as one of the best English teams of all time but they finished on 79 points. No one is going to give a fuck about all these narratives once the season is over whoever wins. If City win it and Pep goes he'll be lauded for a treble in his last season. If we win it and win a bit more in the next few years it'll be talked about as Arteta replacing him. All the narratives will shift once the season is over and we have a champion. In our case the sides of that coin are very extreme.

Not trying to be pedantic but that's not true. Whilst I generally don't disagree that this is a weaker, less experienced City side than most City sides over the last decade or so the worst one in recent history is last season's City side. That side didn't win anything and they ended with even less points than they will now.

City post January transfer window are being conflated with the City of the first half and last season - despite the fact that they transformed their side after signing Semenyo and Guehi.

They've picked up 37 points (second most in the league) and two trophies since Jan.

Big Willie Champ that's fair,I probably meant in terms of this iteration of City not a one season basis but this city isn't great. I think if we had done like Liverpool and killed them back in January when we had the chances to go 10+points clear they would have faded in the league. We just kept them close enough to allow some belief.

I just find it weird how we are getting pulled into the Talksport narrative to diminish what we are doing this season. City have a domestic double, with their expensive newly acquired winger scoring one of the best FA Cup final goals ever. This is not a KDB/Rodri/Gundogan classic team, but it is still packed to the rafters with talent. They left several players including Haaland out of their wednesday league tie and still rocked their opposition 3-0.

If they win this league, the Talksport/Northwest cabals will both laud Pep and mock us endlessly. Nothing is genuine. None of them said the same of Liverpool last season when they stopped performing post February once Slot's ideas took root.

Can only speak for myself but I don't find that acknowledging this is not one of the stronger City sides diminishes winning for me. As I said, I don't care.
