This cup is a completely unnecessary distraction - the further we get, the better the opponents and the more likely we end up playing first teamers through a gruelling Jan schedule for games we could do without.

I'm convinced if we hadn't faced Newcastle twice in Jan, some of our injuries could have been prevented.

That's supposition at this point. Everyone was surprised by the lineup because I think we all expected something stronger given PL opposition. I see no reason why Arteta wouldn't apply the same selection logic he did yesterday.

daredevil the solution is just keep playing the back up XI. Its plenty strong and it gives those guys a good chance to get minutes. If we go out so be it.

If we're playing Man City in the semis - I'd expect Arteta to play the big guns like he did against Newcastle last season.

I'm more than happy to live and die by the second string like Wenger used to do.

If it's a final - then fair enough, but anything before that is just additional games during an already packed agenda for an ROI that's just not worth it.

We should just keep putting out teams like yesterday. If we advance then great, if not then who cares. I can see it happening if we get to the semifinals that Arteta becomes nervous about potentially losing a trophy with this sort of team though.

Yeah, I would hope that this argument will resolve itself as the season goes on. Our squad is massive so in theory we should have enough to seriously compete for the Carabao Cup without having to agonise over whether to risk over playing key players. By the time the Palace game rolls along we'll hopefully be looking for games to keep players happy and to get players fit and firing. Havertz, Madueke and Odegaard could all be players who are available but will have hardly played any football. How many opportunities will there be for Hincapie or Nwaneri before that game?

I am hoping Arteta has learned from the last time we got to the semi's of the CC and put out too strong of a team (comparatively) and we got dumped out in two straight games by Newcastle. Let the backups/kids play, and as Quiny said, if we advance, great. If not, oh well. Its priority #4 on the list of 4 priorities. I know people say we shouldn't sneer at trophies, but we need to be completely going after the bigger ones this season. If it was any season that we have a great chance for a major trophy, its this season.

Interestingly enough.. This will be the second season in a row that we will face Crystal Palace in the QF's. Last season was the Jesus treble that won it for us.

Nah, we've had Havertz, Madueke and Ødegaard injured basically most of the season so far as well as the Newcastle penalty nonsense. That Palace have a tight schedule around an unimportant league cup match barely registers.
