Sure, we should've expected to win something by now. And by something I don't even mean the FA Cup, never mind the Carabao Cup.
But I think our xT (our imaginary measure of expected league titles given other clubs' average performances) by now is probably up there around 1.0.
If that makes sense (and I believe it does if we avoid chest-thumping about how wins are wins), then we're performing at expectations.
The vicissitudes of nearly seasons and hangovers and transfers and strikers and injuries aren't the right way to make a decision on the manager at present. It's more about what we have than what we lack.
So to me, the medium future is mostly about the squad and the players in it that I can't see we can spare if we're to win titles. That's still pretty much our key defenders, Rice, Ødegaard, Saka and the youth breaking through.
If those players are all still backing Arteta, there's nothing in the numbers or performances that suggests sacking Arteta is more likely to achieve anything but a decent chance of several regrettable high profile departures.
But if I thought Saka, Øde, Gabriel, Rice or Saliba had hopped off the Arteta train, it would change a great deal.
