Another thing is the player was offered this deal by Barca, he didn't hold a gun to their head and make them sign it. So for the new Barca board it is quite cheap for them to come in and try to smear him and force him leave using those kind of tactics. Resorting to those kind of tactics just about sums up Barca though. During the pandemic they mutually agreed to defer the wages so they should honour it.

Burnwinter and we might be able to talk him down to £300k/w à la Havertz.

I've seen a few reliable people talk about Havertz not being on that much. Supposedly around £250k and with all bonuses added on raises above £300k.

But your point is valid, Frenkie is a player who would command around £300k and we are in a position to offer him that. I remember a while ago though that a lot of our salaries are highly incentivised, so the base isn't super high but if they hit their targets they get paid a fair amount. That is defo the way to structure the contracts.

QuincyAbeyie but those players aren't on the wages FDJ is on. He's an outlier in that regard. Havertz fit our structure, I still think we paid him too much but he didn't break our structure, others are on similar money. No one at Arsenal earns over 300k, a few are over 250k. Frenkie is on 700k. He'll end up going somewhere that will pay over half that IMO. If we can get him for under £300k then great but I don't see it as realistic.

I would sign him if we have to give him Havertz type money and I don't think we'll get the very best players if we tlel than that only Havertz gets that much, that's all I'm saying. I'm certainly not advocating giving him the same salary he has now.

Marca’s article from May 2022 says his base salary is £12m a year, plus a loyalty bonus of £13m (total) which came into effect this season. So his overall earnings (base + loyalty bonus) over 6.5 years comes to £270k per week. The deferred payments and the loyalty bonuses taking effect at the back end of the contract inflates it. And I think the 700k figure is a miscalculation of how the loyalty bonus is structured.

Surprised we haven’t been linked. The guy ticks so many boxes. Physical, played with intensity, scores a lot, and is able to latch on to a lot of balls and press like a madman.
