Claudius it’s very hard to say. Judging by the amateurish way football clubs operate I’m sure one would find incriminating emails if e.g. a dawn raid was done. But it’s hard to see a competition authority bring a cartel case against football clubs (don’t think this has ever happened) so it would have to be a private action or some other avenue such as a regulatory body imposing rules to oppose this and then clubs challenging it based on competition law (this is how most cases originate).

Iraola and Carrick will be given time, I feel.

Liverpool have the most impatient of fan bases and ownership has always been sensitive to expressions of discontent among match-going supporters. If Iraola can't make his unbalanced squad with £400M of attackers and no defense work he could be in trouble.

RowJimmy Agreed, but they just sacked Slot and they understand the need for stability. As long as Iraola doesn't drop the ball completely he'll be given time I feel. I think Isak and Wirtz are in more danger than he is if they have another disappointing season: I can see at least one of them being pushed out the door.

United are in a similar situation with Carrick, but mostly because they've put themselves there. Nothing they've done in the last decade has worked so now they're just hoping that they've managed to hire someone competent and cling to him.

Well their philosophy might be a bit different. In the absence of a proper defense you better have a devastating attack to compensate.

Depends on how bad Iraola's results are. They barely gave a season to a title winning manager so I can't imagine them sticking with Iraola through the hard times if there isn't a material uplift in performance.

daredevil I think Slot would have lasted if he hadn't alienated Salah and a bunch of others though. He burned through all his credit in the bank but they were ready to let him continue.

Just in case I didn't hate Chelsea enough.... they go and sign Emi Martinez. Really hope they struggle again this season.

I think people seriously overrate Emi these days, especially when he doesn't have an Argentina kit on. Is he an improvement on Sanchez? Hard not to be. But I don't think he's elite in any way these days. Personally I still think that Chelsea is quite weak defensively and they haven't shown me they can control games at all.

samthegooner he’s always been overrated. There’s a reason he’s spent his best years at Villa, and had clubs fail to follow through on any interest for him. He’s created an aura out of penalty hi-jinks that have people fooled he’s an elite keeper.

Yeah. Emi is a good tournament keeper, but not the best in the league. And he's getting a bit more dodgy these days. He's an upgrade to Sanchez, but nearly as much of an upgrade as people think. He isn't going to win them 12 points a season or anything.
