I have a feeling United are going to have a torrid season and finish in the bottom half again.

TambourineMan I hink they'll finish top 5 again. Won't be as comfortable as last season but I don't see them dropping too much. Actually think they've done well not to blow their transfer kitty on big names this summer. A lot of good solid low risk signings instead of going for big names who are half checked out already. Now if they lose Fernandes I will reassess but right they look ok. I think they'll be similar to last year.

That's as average as it gets, add UCL football in it's expanded format and their glaring lack of depth = bottom half, imo

TambourineMan Agree with this - their depth is absolutely dreadful. Liverpool is in the same boat. If either of these teams absorbs even a handful of injuries, their squads look bottom of the table.

Their attack is very good and that will bail them a lot this season. The problem for them will be last season they played 40 games so essentially were playing a game a week keeping their squad fit and fresh. With CL and if they go deeper into cups it will put a lot of pressure on the squad

JazzG Brighton seem to have lost the hype around most of their players that they had a year or 2 ago. Baleba I think was injured a bit last season.

Depends on how Carrick handles the pressure of his sophomore season. He had an unexpected golden run last season, and he evidently has some ability but if they have a few bad results it'll mount up quick … if they have to go through a deep trough and sack Carrick, they could easily finish way down the rankings depending on who drinks the poisoned chalice next.

I agree they'll definitely be there or thereabouts for UCL. Not sure what's happened to Baleba but be interesting to see how much they end up paying for him.

Qwiss He’s definitely the type of profile they need because Tieleman is a good player but has no legs at all. I don’t know too much about Santos but Baleba defo has the engine and legs they need in midfield.

Seen a few on Twitter say he had an average season, started 31 and made 34 appearances so had plenty of game time

JazzG Santos is another good young prospect. Looked decent for Chelsea, bit of an MLS type but not quite as good. Wouldn't be first choice at United but a solid back up and young enough to grow into an important player if things go well. Could imagine him and Baleba dovetailing well if they grow together and gel.

In a market where Fernandez went for £85m, Scott isn’t being sold, Tonali for £100m and Bruno £75m Man Utd getting Baleba for less could be a shrewd buy. But I am also very skeptical as Brighton aren’t a club who sell on the cheap….

JazzG They've made quite a few sales as well I guess. £120m for Spence, Vuskovic and Romero off top of my head. Can't remember who else they managed to sell. Be hilarious if they don't make Champions League though.

samthegooner you're overestimating the competition. Who apart from Arsenal and United are finishing above them. Chelsea maybe but Spurs are shit. Villa have been stripped for parts. Then you are looking at Brighton, Bournemouth, etc Maybe one of those teams pushes the top but they've their own issues. Bournmouth were the best bet to break it last season but they've lost Iraola and Kroup is out for half the season, they'll probably lose Scott before the window closes. Both sides were basically as bad last season and finished 3rd and 5th. I think they'll be about the same.

Gunner89 The new Sporting Director of City, Hugo Viani, is such a downgrade from Txiki. He's brought in a bunch of players at huge wages and they're now trying to shift them. He also just renewed and increased Foden's contract. I have a feeling that the loss of Pep and Txiki is going to be felt for years.
