Yep seems like they’re looking to fill out their depth with young, high potential attackers like Akliouche, Goedts and Fernandez-Pardo, the Lille winger. Not a bad strategy when you’ve got the top end talent they’ve got but surprised they can convince all these young players to play limited roles.

Claudius always felt people miss that about footballers. They have supreme self belief, and why not? As you say they've been the best everywhere their whole lives.

JazzG think Godts and Tzolis together at the same time would be too much risk. Him going to PSG is fine, much smaller step up from the Eridevise to Ligue 1 than to the PL. And he'll barely feature in the big CL games. Their set up lets players develop without the same sort of pressure you'd have here too and it makes them look better than they are so they can sell them on for profit pretty handily too.

Qwiss I don’t know about that these days, maybe only really applies to the very top talents. They’re often in teams with other similarly talented kids from the youngest age. There are many stories from footballers talking about how there was someone more talented who didn’t make it. Injuries, lucky breaks, mentality. Loads of factors outside of them being the best.

TBH Romano only looks bad here if the transfer doesn't happen. A lot of others getting their digs in and Romano is a scumbag but I don't see anyone slagging him off who I'd consider a decent journalist either. JazzG well they'd all have to be loans with an option or done at least 45 days after the other deal. Otherwise they come in as a loan and the financial jiggery pokery doesn't work.

This inflated Garnacho fee keeps doing the rounds because people just don't like or rate him, and completely ignore the reality of the transfer market. He is still young, certainly young enough you can still factor potential into his value for any club that want to gamble on it. He's got some above average attributes. He has decent pedigree. He is likely moving from a club who typically sell players like him extremely well. I'd argue there are no comparators out there going for significantly less that what he will move for.

Clubs are just more awash with money than they've ever been. Not all of them spend sensibly for a variety of reasons.

Tam Slightly disagree. While looking on a standalone basis, it is absolutely plausible that some stupid club wants Garnacho for 50M (another stupid club bought Madueke for 50M last year - can't quite remember who). Having said that, the 2 clubs in question have a history of doing exactly such shady transfers for the same reason - remember Ian Maatsen and Omari Kellyman 2 years ago? In that backdrop, it is not really unreasonable to question the appropriateness and independence of these transfers.

Tam yeah Garnacho is very young. There is still potential to flip him for profit in a couple of years. He's a moron but he's one of those players managers thing they can fix.

Well, you ignore the reality of the situation as well. If two clubs are buying a player from each other and have the kind of financial limitations Villa and Chelsea do this year, it's to their advantage to inflate the costs of both players. Why would they not do that?

Bernard Woolley Of course, but only for the same reason everyone else. Ridiculously inflated fees that are only memorable because the players otherwise wouldn't be. No doubt it was funny business there, but the circumstances aren't the same. They were two players who were sold for fees beyond what would be considered reasonable for those of a similar standing. Neither Garnacho nor Rogers really fall into that bracket. Rogers fee is a bit ridiculously admittedly, but it's not as out of step as Maatsen/Kellyman.

QuincyAbeyie There's no immediate net benefit to Chelsea for non-footballing reasons, they're still taking a greater financial hit to their accounts by signing Rogers. They could realistically sell Garnacho for a similar fee to anyone else.
