Yeah, well (rightly or wrongly) he has not been charged with anything either.... So there's that. Im not saying he is innocent or guilty, i don't actually know either way, even if we all have our suspicions.. But my comment was more 'banter' (so to speak) than a serious negotiating tactic by the club.

@Qwiss - too much change at one time is not necessarily a good thing from a football perspective. You can't change 3 or more players in the starting XI at the start of the season and expect everything to be a well oiled machine. Thats all i'm saying.

USArsenal I get the worry but we'd already replaced Partey as part of the first XI by signing Zubimendi. I'd rather we still had Jorginho as back up as he is the sort experienced personality I'd like around the club in that sort of role but failing that I think we are ok. We also have Rice who can do the role if needed. We'll be fine.

I'll believe Partey's gone when there's a destination club confirmed beyond "Milan and Fener made concrete offers" and we've got our midfield sorted. The deadline narrative is indecisive. There are probably some financial implications for the PSR reporting period but even if Partey's contract lapses briefly he can be re-signed.

Burnwinter he's going to be asking for a big salary, as it's his last major contract before the wheels come off. I can't see many clubs significantly out-bidding whatever offer we've tabled, unless he goes to Saudi.

Sicario2 Yeah. But as far as I know Partey's contract lapsing has little bearing on whether he plays for us next season. We've allegedly made him an offer, so until he's confirmed off elsewhere or we replace him, his agent can probably crawl back to negotiate: except for any payments that affect PSR.

You know Merino is fantastic as a holding midfielder too. Him and MLS is ample cover though I recon we’d bring in another midfielder alongside Zubimendi

I recon Zubimendi is going to boss the premiership. He’s an extremely intelligent player

lorddulaarsenal Zubimendi, Merino and Odegaard will be our first choice for sure. They have the Sociedad connect, as well as national team chemistry (for the Spaniards). We should be solid. We would just need a body to act as back up and we are set in the midfield for the foreseeable.

Yea, he's not exactly a sponsors dream. He's had long term injury issues. Teams want legs in CM now.

If someone signs him and there's another accusation it looks a lot worse as you've signed him with the awareness of his character.

Also he gets booed at almost every ground since the accusations, he amplifies a lot of negative feelings about our club. It's hard to measure the overall effect of that.

Zubimendi is his replacement. We just need someone with a bit more experience to cover Jorginho’s role. Preferably someone with some leadership quality that still plays a role in the squad even if he’s not getting minutes.

Tam doesn't really matter who's the replacement for who. Unless MLS is going into a midfield role we need another player. It looks clear enough that arsenal wanted to both keep Partey and get Zubi if the terms were agreeable.

If we're going to sign some journeyman to replace him like Norgaard then we might as well keep him.

Think that's what'll prevent him from signing a new deal more than anything else: he won't start, and he won't get a bonus for running down his contract. The two big benefits of being a free agent is that you can choose where you want to go and get a sign-on bonus when you do. Most players choose to go somewhere they know they'll play.

Personally I think he'll play in Italy next season, maybe at Juve or sime similar scummy club.
