this is an embarrassment. the only reason I didn't mind us pushing so hard for a winger is because mudryk seemed to be a special talent worth pursuing and pushing the boat out for. if we end up empty handed in january, we are total donkies. just when I thought out leadership team had our house in order as well.

We spent 1-2 months in the summer pursuing Martinez before Utd took his value from 30m to 60m+.

We brought Zinchenko almost immediately.

I hope Edu has a plan B like he did with Vlahovic and Martinez.

Gunner89 I suspect we'll probably be waiting until the summer to execute, don't think we'll get our alternative in this window. A lot of groundwork has clearly gone into making Mudryk happen this month so whilst I'm sure we'll have alternative targets lined up (let's not forget that Mudryk was the alternative target in the summer), I'm not sure we'll be able to get them done in this window.

Also, I'd add that in terms of finding alternative players, I think that is where we need to think laterally (which is in line with what we've previously seen from Edu/Arteta. Replacing Mudryk with someone else doesn't require finding a like-for-like replacement. Reminds me of when we sold Henry and replaced him with Eduardo.

Tweak the game plan and find someone that fulfils that strategy.

Chelsea are like the rich, dimwitted bully in the school yard. Really sucks to lose out on Mudryk after all this time but 100m for him is fucking insane. It's a cliche at this point but they are completely destroying the market.

I think Edu's record has been really sketchy, in some spots atrocious and I was one of the few who didn't quite understand his promotion from the outside looking in. I also think the jan transfer strategy has been questionable.

flobaba However with the pursuit of Mudryk in isolation, I feel like we're the only ones who come out of this not worse off and with some respect. Its quite fresh so bears further reflection, but thats my initial sense.

Was not impressed on Neto or Pino so hopefully we're not turning to one of those.

Agreed, should just funnel those funds to a CM like Enzo. There are alterative wingers/strikers options out there. Should look to getting Marcus Thuram as a cheap alternative.
