Last year they had a serious injury crisis at the back, there's no guarantee of that happening again.

Only if you think teams are incapable of improving internally and players can't step up to make an existing squad even better.

I hope they're only as good as last season but we don't look as good as we were, and they look better than us.

banduan They had a few injuries but they were worse with defensive injuries the season before when they fell out of the CL spots. They had VvD fit all last season. The fact they've had fitness issues at the back 2 years in a row suggests they'll probably have them again anyway. And van Dijk is 33, chances are he either gets an injury or slows up in the latter part of the season, same for Salah. He's back on form but people forget he went off the boil for a long spell last season, most likely due to fatigue.

daredevil I don't think they're likely to improve that much internally. If they do Slots a genius. I think they'll come unstuck eventually though, they are riding a wave at the moment. Pretty much everything is going their way right now, plus the new manager bounce. Its all a bit Ange this time last year.

I still think they are catchable though. They play City in a few weeks so we can claw back points.

It's true, take away the corrupt refs and we'd have wins against City, Liverpool, and Brighton. That's 6 more points and we'd be a solitary point behind Liverpool despite a massive injury crisis and the toughest fixtures. The narrative would be totally different.

Whilst I agree with all this, you are one of the hardest people to read on here. Couple dropped point games and you're all "title race is over" after 5 or 6 rounds. A few more poor results in the following games and it's all gone the opposite way and we can now capitalise and claw back a 7/5 point gap to Liverpool/City. I think the only thing I can be confident of when it comes to you is whatever it is, it'll be absolute confidence in what you are saying and no fence sitting like a certain someone we all know. 😆

If we can get some semblance of attacking verve back then for sure we can get back in it. The season is way too early to write off. The only worry is whether the players still have the same belief and can release thr handbrake so to speak. After 2 years of blood, sweat and tears resulted in falling just short, and coupled with the poor run of form we've been in over the last month and a half, it is a genuine worry. Arteta needs to work his magic and get the players believing again, and soon.

What was the alleged "corrupt refereeing" thing that happened against Liverpool? Perhaps I'm not remembering the game well, but I can't think of anything. There's an angle that clearly shows Konate getting the ball on the Martinelli challenge. I can't recall anything else.

DiabyKungFu If an incident happens anywhere else on the pitch where you absolutely total a player and upend him, but get a small touch on the ball it is a foul. The physicality isn't proportionate.

If it happens in the box players get away with getting the tiniest snick of a ball regardless of their impact on the opposition. All sense of proportionality goes out the window when a foul is committed inside the box. It's harder to win fouls because the potential impact is much more severe.

A foul is a foul, or should be. Games often don't play out that way, but the Martinelli/Konate ~~incident~~foul is one of the poorer examples.

Difference between title is lost and us battling top 4 which is what a lot of ppl are claiming if we don’t win on Sunday. Having said that, I may have underestimated how poor City would be without Rodri. Liverpool are good but don’t think they are that good if they are the main guys.

Seen the mood go considerably down on here after last two loses, just rallying up the troops.

You are right, Arteta needs to earn his bucks here, sign of a good manager is always how they do in adversity. I will judge him at the end of the season depending on silverware but still fully believe he can turn this around in the short term.

Yup, then the opposite happens in the box when the attacker makes the tiniest contact on the defenders (especially the goalkeeper) when trying to win the ball back and concedes the softest freekicks that would never be given to the attacking side.
