Claudius We talked that proposition out in the thread I made about "the Brighton model" a while back. Yes we can't pursue the Tony Bloom approach to generate cash from our squad. But also we're likely to suffer over time if we have an excessively manager-centric, rather than squad-value-centric, approach to recruitment and development.
So far the Project™ hasn't brought in trophies. Now the journalists covering us all write that we have to sell to buy, and that we have to manage our homegrown limits. Our transfer business has gone from "mostly good" to "often questionable" as it gets harder and harder to find the last pieces of the puzzle.
My expectations haven't been major trophy or bust for 23–24. But I can see issues developing with the balance of influence that it'd be best not to wave away. I'd say if Arteta were to clearly "trend downward" with this playing group we'd want him to have less influence on signings, not more.
