Frustrating half

Matches like this is why I don't necessarily consider it a risk to play Martinelli centrally. It might not work, but it's not like the perceived safe option works that often either. I just don't think we can carry a striker like Laca at the moment. He looked good when he came into the team, he doesn't now.

We've done alright and should have scored really but it's a nervy performance. Aside from White, Odegaard and maybe Partey, everyone else looks very uncertain.

Wolves can do nothing but hit quickly forwad on the break.

It's a rare game where Martinelli and Saka look like 20 year olds. Gabriel, Xhaka and Lacazette were terrible for the most part. Partey had some poor moments too.

Got to find a way to play better in the second half. I feel we have them tactically, we're just making too many bad passes. Admittedly, Lacazette being near useless is not helping at all.

Poor start but we responded well. Wolves don't deserve to be ahead. Shame about the manner in which we conceded but we really need to change something to create more clear cut chances as efficiency is a difficult route with Laca leading the line.

wolves are well organised. the main way we've been unlocking teams is with a bit of magic from our wide players. most of our goals involve them taking out at least one defender via dribbling, and they haven't been able to do that today.

Going to be tough second half. Wolves are really well drilled.. Would like to see ESR come on.. maybe time to see Martinelli upfront.

He's always like that, performs for a bit but starts huffing and puffing soon enough. I agree, if Martinelli or even ESR as a false 9 doesn't work you can always bring Laca off the bench but this isn't sustainable.

Xhaka has been invisible. Abandoning midfield but offering absolutely nothing offensively.

So frustrating to watch this.

Our inability to come back from losing positions doesn't bode well. A lot of huffing and puffing but not many clear cut chances.

I still think we can grab 1 though and then who knows.

Generally we are a bit better but the stupid goal is what separates us. It's not a game for mistakes, and failing to punish them.

To be fair to Saka he's playing with a half-witted dwarf as his cover on the right flank. He's shut that side down well defensively ever since he realised that Cedric is a non-league player so Wolves switched flank.

I think we limit Odegaard's influence in the center through this shape in which Xhaka pushes up from the left and Odegaard from the right with Partey at the base. The more touches Odegaard has in the central areas closer to their box, the more dangerous we will be.

That's on Odegaard too though. He's always drifted into the right channel, including his team at Real Sociedad, as he prefers that space.

I think Partey's done well to eventually add a little respect to all the vacant spaces that were being left either side; Podence was just drawing to the pocket behind Xhaka. Partey could be flourishing if he wasn't presented with so much risk.

Worst half I've seen from us since Everton away.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert

Performances like tonight's show some of Saka's weaknesses that continue to concern me.

His first touch can be poor - like when he set himself up for that right footed effort - and his right foot is pretty shit anyway and he's constantly forced onto it when the opposition have men back. He also takes an age to shoot.

Martinelli has been poor as well. Hate when he goes on the outside of the defender because he doesn't trust his close control enough to check inside.

ESR is being sorely missed tonight.

One of the worst teams to gift a lead to. This is a painful watch and Wolves will kill the game as much as possible 2nd half.

Ince is not impressed with Laca in the studio. The misses and potshots are pretty unflattering when they show them in a sequence like that.

Laca has been a ghost and I am sure that in the next half it will be worse because by the 60 minute mark the guy seems to have been playing 3 matches in a row. We need to reshape the attack front.
