Ridiculous if true, which admittedly is a bit of a stretch. We should have learned from overpaying and handing out ridiculous contracts by now.

Dzeko was a really good player, just a little hit and miss. Vlahovic looks like he has a solid mentality, and is more consistent at a young age.

IIRC the earlier article I saw (saying he was happy with the personal terms), said the offer had been either 130k/week or 160k/week. I think there was some implication the wages offered was significantly more than he currently earns and/or what Fiorentina could offer.

I also see some rehash of quotes made by Fiorentina last Oct about not wanting to sell and to keep him until the end of the season, and likewise talk from his agent last summer about not wanting to talk to us about a potential move as he wants a UCL club. IMO both comments/quotes are no longer relevant to the current circumstances.

I guess it's a leak of where his team entered negotiations, not what might end up being settled.

But to make this happen it'll be a higher number than seems at all sensible. I guess I was expecting to hear £200k per week.

However good he is, massive money would be a massive gamble. And cause problems renegotiating with anyone in outstanding form on our roster.

The £300k per week is allegedly pre-tax (with £160k the nett).

Makes sense Burnsy. Wages are almost always discussed pre-tax in Italy. This is probably the same misunderstanding as back when Ornstein thought Ramsey was getting 400K per week nett from Juventus.

If so then that's nuts because so far as I know there is no one else we are directly competing with to sign him at this point. Yes there are a number of clubs/managers talked of, but most either do not need him atm and/or cannot afford him.

Even when we have Ozil 350k that was gross figures, I doubt any of the figures you see about wages in England are net wages. It's automatically make him our second highest earner after Auba and one of the highest in the league. Madness, and a gamble not worth risking. I'd push for between 130-150 gross max for this guy. And that's stretching it more than I'd like.

Aren’t wages pre tax in England (pretty much everywhere) too? I’m sure when we talk about Ozil on 350k that’s pre tax, or Auba being on 250k is pre tax, otherwise they be on insane wages close to double that per week if they are post tax figures.

Either way we shouldn’t be paying Vlahovic anywhere near £300k pw, pre or post tax. He doesn’t seem to entirely want to be here and that could rub off on the other youngsters, who very much do want to be here.

Not sure where this agent thinks Vlahovic is going really. He's very talented but he's very young and needs further refinement. He's not in the Mbappe/Haaland bracket. Does he think Bayern or City are coming after him next summer? Barca? Liverpool? Juve aren't guaranteed CL and we'd double whatever salary they offer.

Both things are a factor in the sensationalism.

It looks to me like the figure circulating might be the entry point of Vlahovic's team to negotiation, and not the result. I
don't credit it. I'd expect a painfully high number but £300k sounds like bullshit.

Understood. Still absurd to be even mentioning 300k wages, gross or otherwise. He's worth half that at a push. No way can those figures be real, and even if they were we'd be stupid to even come to the table at those numbers.

because he's refused to renew his fiorentina deal and if he maintains his form, there will be a bidding war among higher status clubs for his services as his contract winds down. if we want him now we basically have to bribe him and his agent with a crazy amount of money, because we're out of Europe for many years and also clearly in desperate need of a top striker. id imagine they'll happily walk away from the table if we don't stump up the cash, as we don't appear to be a destination that's high on his list. there's also the sketchy track record of our recent big money signings. lacazette, partey, pepe and to a lesser extent white (still early days for him) haven't been bad, but none of them have emphatically justified what we paid for them either. auba is arguably the only 50m+ purchase that's been worthwhile. he might look at that and think we're not the right place to take his game to the next level, but he'd take the risk if the offer is too good to ignore

KSE spending money doesn't bother me, but destabilising wages across our squad would kinda suck unless Vlahovic becomes a Premier League sensation. Might be worth the gamble but it's very hard to tell.

That's just his agent doing what he's paid for. Vlahovic is still on his first contract which he's signed when Fiorentina got him on the cheap as an 18 year old, probably on lower wages than most our academy kids. He's rejected an extension and knows half of Europe is after him, if his agent weren't trying to maximise his current hype he should be sacked on the spot.
