From being a washed out player no decent European team could possibly be interested in, to being sold for minus £8m having lucked out at Barca's random interest, to 6 months later having multiple clubs interested in paying £30m for him.

The only teams interested in him are Chelsea and Man Utd. Teams we wouldn't have entertained selling to in January, and both of which have had serious issues with their main strikers since then. That's not to say paying him to leave wasn't the worst financial outcome.

You really think Arsenal would refuse to sell Auba to United or Chelsea for 20-30m and rather give him away for free? A player deemed not good enough with to persevere with for another 6 months whilst attempting to qualify for top 4. So much so that we not only gave him away to Barca for free, we actually ended up paying 8m of his wages to them for the next 6 months instead. We may be poor at extracting maximum value when selling our players, but we aren't completely clueless.

Let's be honest, it was more likely a case of get rid of him at all costs in January and we took whatever we could get (or the minimum we'd need to give up) to send him on his way. United or Chelsea weren't interested at that point but it just shows how desperate we were to get rid of him that we'd rather try to force him out then and there by making his time here untenable by stripping him of the captaincy (deserved), leaving him out the squad completely for 2 months and then engaging in a leaked media campaign to make it seem like hes someone incredibly difficult to work with. It's no surprise teams weren't interested in him back then.

Based on how we've acted during that saga, I have no doubt we'd have taken 20-30m from United or Chelsea back then if it was offered.

Our primary financial goal was to not be responsible for his wages this year. American sports have lots of "dead money" or buy-out situations and the Kroenkes had no problem with that.

I do not think we would have sold within the premier league unless it was for extraordinary money. Probably only Newcastle would have been considered.

That's an unfalsifiable claim, much like my assertion that we wouldn't have entertained selling to the two. So the truth is, we don't know. What we do know is that at the time, Chelsea had Lukaku and Man Utd had a loyal Ronaldo, so neither were in the market for a striker. So the fact that they are in the market for him today doesn't mean they would have been back then, and that the two willing to offer 30 million today is not lost revenue for us.

Now it looks like Forest have passed on to him. Linked with Palace, Sociedad and Sevilla.

Sounds like this is happening, hearing he wants £10m after a tax a year. That is nearly a £120m outlay over three years. Crazy numbers, still a bloody good player mind you.

Real Madrid probably confident that Tchouameni & Camavinga will be able to fill in for him. Spent around £70m on Tchouameni so will be recouping most of that back, say what you want about them but they're a very well run outfit.

He’ll be motivated in year one and two, and that’s all United need.

Actually think it’s an astute signing by them as it lets them lean into their offensive midfielders.

Absolutely

Casemiro will be run ragged in the Prem, he will get roasted if exposed.

Tactically he has a great brain, and knows how to disrupt the play. He will instantly be hated by all other teams. He also gets protection by being a Real Madrid player, that protection here will not be as much, so I see a few red cards for him as well.

He dumps the ball off to Kroos and Modric to recycle and keep possession, there he will have Mc Tominay and Fred 😆😆

Even if Bruno Eriksen, and maybe Van Der Beek get a look in, only Eriksen has any sort of know how with the ball.

Definitely not a long term fix, ETH will be hoping that Casemiro stabilises the team immediately, but I don’t see it.

Better Casemiro then De Jong. Still annoying how much they can spend on wages though - will always mean they're a pull for even the best players. Apart from City and Chelsea, no one else in this league can compete when they decide to throw money around.

I think they'll get two more big players between now and the end of the window and be a real threat for top 4.
