Spot on regarding Kimpembe. I thought it was only me who doesn't have rate him. Always makes mistakes, loses his temper big style but gets away with it in France. Chalobah will start ahead of him most games.

De Jong’s money situation is far too complicated.

I think he stays another year, get paid some of the money, then leaves. Hopefully we will be in the mix for him.

€85m is probably why! Also unlike Man Utd who seem to have negotiated with Barca despite the player saying he doesn't want to join. Maybe they're confident that pressure from Barca and Utd might help get him?

I would like to think we did approach him, were told no and backed off. I think being in the CL would have made a massive difference to our case.

If we reportedly have 65m for Raphinha, 50m for Martinez etc or even factually paid 40m for Vieira we definitely should have 85m for de Jong.

Like I said if we put the money thing aside if the player has told us he doesn't want to join us I can't see us pursuing him. Man Utd might sign him but if they don't, they're gonna look very pathetic chasing after him all summer to be told no.

We weren't even linked to him, how would we or you know whether he told us no? We've chased after Locatelli a year ago, Vlahovic last January, Raphinha and Martinez this summer. Hardly like we only engage when the other side tells us to

How do you know we haven't approached him?

We were linked to him a few months back and then heard nothing after. Bottom line is we don't know but I would say most clubs usually get the player on-board before approaching the club. Man Utd seem to be doing things differently.

The most obvious reason is that United have been in the running since day one and they would offer more both in transfer fees and wages. So there's no point when we would be outbid, just like they've done with Lisandro Martinez.

Reports MU & Barca have agreed a fee but have still to discuss the payment structure.
Also seen a headline inferring Barca have now reportedly told FdJ that a move to MU would be best for his career, after saying he was not for sale less than a week ago = money talks.
No mention of the money Barca owe him in wages for the temporary pay cut during COVID.
