France midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is attracting interest from Chelsea, Liverpool, Paris St-Germain and Real Madrid but Monaco will not accept less than 50m euros (£42m) for the 22-year-old. (Foot Mercato - in French)

If true we need to be all over this.

Phillips is more established than White was too. He's a starting midfielder for the most successful England team since 66. He was always going to cost a lot.

Camavinga and de Paul were sold for less than 30m last summer, Gravenberch is likely to leave for 30m next summer, just to name a couple examples. If you compare him to English players exclusively of course you'll find similarly expensive guys, that's exactly why you shouldn't buy English players.

I don't think it's because the players are english anymore, but rather because the buying club is in the Premier League. Clubs here are obscenely rich in comparison to pretty much any other league, and selling clubs will, and should, take advantage of that.

Think Real Madrid will be all over this one, him and Camavinga to take over from Modric & Kroos.

Camavinga had a year to run on his contract and basically only wanted to join Real Madrid. Also doesn't Gravenberch's contract run out next year? Tchouameni's sale will be a bit more comparable imo.

I know it winds you up but the fact is good English players come at a massive premium, it has always been the case. The Homegrown rules have just added fire to that as teams struggle to make up quotas and be as competitive as possible.

Stealing Philips is a big blow to Leeds where he's not just a key player but also the footballer who has defined them the most over the last two decades. He's their own product, born in West Yorkshire, grew up as a Leeds fan before he ever kicked a ball for them. If Villa manage to lure him over it's a massive blow for morale. That sort of damage is worth a few extra million I reckon.

He's also a wee bit good, honestly. Maybe he gets overrated in England sometimes because he's English, but I also think he gets underrated because of it from an international perspective. He's a much, much better footballer than Rice for instance.

Why would it wind me up? Because I'm saying English players are very rarely good value for money? Not like I said they're all shit or that we shouldn't invest in the academy but buying English is burning money on a passport.

Camavinga had just a year left but he's looked a generational talent who nailed down a starting midfield spot at a Ligue 1 club at 16. Gravenberch is on a similar level, their contracts don't make that much of a difference. They're also leaving for Madrid and Munich while the others leaving for Birmingham.
Like Klaus I also think Philips is the more natural footballer but if you wanted to compare those two to someone it'd be Rice due to their ages, and West Ham want 100m+ for him.

Yeah a wee bit, not 60m bit though. I don't think anyone here underrates him, people think he's a good CM despite him turning 27 this year and having under 50 top flight appearances in his career. There's probably no other player in world football with those career figures who anyone here would want for Arsenal.

Leeds and Villa having European dreams (who bar Burnley doesn't have those in the PL) or him being a local kid shouldn't factor in for Villa. It'd be a colossal waste of money even for PL standards.

You have to consider who Villa can get too. Its not like Gravenberch is going to go and sign for them.

There are levels between Gravenberch and Phillips, both talent and value for money wise. That's where your scouts earn their living, either sign Phillips when he's still in the Championship or get a French version. Also it's not like Villa's money hasn't lured players already who are normally considered above their level ie Bailey, Coutinho etc

Anyway one very good signing they made which I'd take off their hands is McGinn. He's just a year older and while a very different type of CM a better player than Phillips, shouldn't cost nearly as much either if we can unsettle him. Not sure he'd start for us but he'd be great as a rotational option

We should definetly add more then one midfielder during the summer. Especially if we sell Xhaka. McGinn would be a great option to have as backup in the squad. I really don't trust Lokonga to be our main backup option for our two midfield positions.
Meaning, we'll probably have to look outside the premier league for our signings and find some good value. Just for example Phillips and McGinn could cost us about 100 mil together.
Hows Aouar been doing this season? I could see him going for a low fee this summer. Maybe he could be a squad option for us.
