Why do you ask Flo who will win dules? Flo doesn't know anything about African football, he didn't even know the players in his own country...

On a serious note apparently the Nigerian FA has missed the deadline to inform Watford about Dennis' call up. Embarrassing enough on its own, but now Ranieri has added another layer to it by saying the club can now decide on its own whether to give the player the chance to play for Nigeria or not. Imagine being in Dennis boots, in the form of his life leading up to his first tourney then both his FA and club acting like complete pricks

I always wait till the knockouts for this. They've had some crackers in the past for sure but no way am I gonna slug through the tedium in the group stages before then.

Yeah I agree about the timing. It’s crazy though that even till today CAF and UEFA haven’t found a way to compromise and mesh calendars better. African football suffers as a result, and it’s not like it’s impossible - Wenger and co are talking about a biennial World Cup after all so we know things can be moved around if the desire is there.

I think Algeria are favorites, but Jones/banduan are right - I haven’t really followed African football as passionately as I did in the 90s till 2010ish for various reasons. Also Nigeria basically don’t have a coach going into this tournament and preparations have been very shoddy, so I’m not expecting a run past the quarter finals from us.

I would think Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Nigeria, CIV all have shots. Those seem to be the strongest teams, but who knows.

Nigerian Super Eagles with a statement win against one of the favorites - Mohammed Salah’s Egypt. The Eagles were dominant, aggressive, sharp in the first half. Only lacking execution and a bit of luck sometimes in front of goal. The defence similarly stifled Salah to a single solitary clear chance on goal early in the second half, but even in that moment he was under some duress. Kelechi Iheanacho got Nigeria’s winning goal in the 30th minute, and had chances to add to the score.

Egyptians were very mute. And Salah wasn’t running riot like he always does in the premier league. I think they have lots of room for improvement though, and may become a more dangerous outfit as the competition wears on and Salah settles down a bit.

Lets give him credit though - He is one of those rare players who are able to retain the same level of pathetic averageness, whether they are playing for their club side or their national side.

Nigeria was poor let's be real. Level of play was shit so far this tourney, no thanks to the trampoline of pitches in Cameroon.

Partey had a horrible afternoon yesterday, kept getting turnt out vs Boufal all game. Difficult to tell a favourite so far all teams were underwhelming
