Seem to be talking about this game everywhere so may as well make a thread and hope it's not jinxing the fixture going ahead.

No real team news as of yet. Tomiyasu not pictured in training which suggests he's still isolating. Hopefully he can return in time because having him there to lock down the right side would be a big comfort. The good news is Partey (and Pepe) are still here so all being well we should be in fairly good shape for the game.

Only other selection question is does ESR come back in but I don't think you can break up the other three just yet. Martinelli in particular will be important for this game with his threat in behind while Odegaard and Saka are in red hot form.

Pep has started early with his patronising comments, said we're playing our best football for 5-6 years. So good. Need to make sure he's bitter again post match like after the FA Cup semi final defeat.

Let's start 2022 with a bang, I'm going for a 2-1 win, dawn of a new era.

Great goal. There was one game that sticks in the mind during the invincible era where we went 3 or 4 up inside 15 mins. They should remind the kids who these guys really are by playing that in the dressing room.

The last time I can remember beating them in the league was if I’m not mistaken Dec 2015 (at home).

We’ve lost 9 consecutive league games against them and I’m pretty sure we haven’t scored against them in the league for a very long time.

Need to really show up on Sat and if anything make it competitive. City will rotate but still think they will be slightly fatigued so need to take advantage. Also they could be complacent as a) they are a few points ahead of the chasing pack now and b) they know whatever happens, one or both of their two main rivals for the league will drop points on Sunday.

Arteta out (literally) is going to weaken us but hopefully we’ve had a good period in build up to the game that the players should be well drilled. No more excuses against a big side this Sat. Let’s go out and show the world we have actually improved.

Since we're going down memory lane, Man City away always reminds me of this performance by Henry that had the City fans applauding him too! Pretty sure most have forgotten this game but those mazy runs in the first half made an impression on me at the time. This was Henry at his peak really.

Brentford lost 1-0 at home and gave a really good account of themselves.

With a week off anything less than a point would be disappointing but expected.

Too often it seems like the team loses this game before the match has even started.

I think young guys like Saka, ESR and Martinelli play without fear of the opposition's reputation. City are obviously big favourites but it's been a while since we played them feeling that we've got a few dangermen of our own who can trouble them.

Maybe it gives us a better chance , playing under less pressure. For once in many years I would like us to go out there and give them a game but I fear we will sink back into the same defensive tactics. Then they will breach us with a goal and we won't be able to respond and then they will pick us off with a second , third etc

Yeah not too invested in the scoreline or the result. I'm very keen to see how expressive the team will show themselves to be. Bark and aggression in defense, some mind games, wide forwards at full pelt, front five capitalizing on inevitable serial fouling, and overall not getting too demoralized by periods of City press and possession.

I was impressed by Saka against City last 1-2 times when there was no cohesive attack and he was conjuring sparks on his own. Suspect he'll be nullified more than recent lower opposition have managed so others will have to step up. The likes of Rodri are not going to give Ødegaard as much space as he's found in recent weeks as well.

Wow those highlights of Henry against City are delightful; he really had them on toast over the years.

We haven't scored a goal against them in 5. Equalled longest run against a single team for our club. They are in superb form while we always struggle badly against them most games are over in the first 10-20 mins.

Getting anything out of this game would be amazing but this result probably doesn't mean much to me since we are expected to lose.

Can't say it wouldn't mean much if we win though.

A loss might be understandable but it will still be disappointing, especially at home.

A bit reluctant to talk about my hopes for this match, but I think the pressure's on them. Whatever the performance and the result, we need to make sure we keep at the level we've been at and continue to progress in the aftermath.

I miss when Manchester City meant romance and failure and Stuart Pearce, or even doping and failure and signing our castoffs for too much money.
